[Comparison] AMD Ryzen 5 5500U vs Ryzen 7 3700U – a beast from the past goes against a new up-and-comer
Continuing on with the comparisons between the Ryzen 5 5500U and other processors, today we have the Ryzen 7 3700U. After yesterday’s events, where the Ryzen 5 5500U showed up with two generations worth of improvements. Let’s see if the more powerful Ryzen 7 can beat the new aspiring budget processor that the Ryzen 5 5500U is. On the surface, the newer CPU has an equal clock speed as well as more cores and threads. The cache is also triple the amount on the Ryzen 5 and the faster memory support will definitely play a role.
Today we are comparing the Ryzen 5 5500U against the Ryzen 7 3700U.

CPU benchmarks
The first order of business is the CPU benchmarks. As always, we begin with the 3D Rendering one with Cinebench 20. Here, the Ryzen 5 5500U scored 61% higher than its opponent. Moving over to the 2D Rendering test with Adobe Photoshop, the results were staggering. The Ryzen 7 3700U took nearly double the time that it took the Ryzen 5 5500U to complete the benchmark.

Die Ergebnisse stammen aus unserem Photoshop-Benchmark-Test (je niedriger die Punktzahl, desto besser)
GPU benchmarks
For the GPU and gaming tests, we start off with 3DMark Fire Strike, where the Radeon RX Vega 7 (15W) was better, having a 29% higher score. Moving over to the two Unigne benchmarks, there the RX Vega 6 was the more powerful chip again, being 108% and 17% faster in Unigine Heaven 4.0 and Unigine Superposition, respectively. In the gaming tests, the iGPU inside the Ryzen 5 5500U had higher frame rates regardless of the game that we had chosen or the settings that we applied.

Conclusion
The improvement that AMD has made over the past few years is amazing. The Ryzen 5 5500U was faster than its opponent in every benchmark that we put them both through. It had a 61% higher performance in Cinebench R20 and took half of the time that the Ryzen 7 3700U took to complete the Photoshop benchmark. In the GPU tests, the Radeon RX Vega 7 was overall the better iGPU, being 51.3% better, on average across our three benchmarks. In the gaming tests, the RX Vega 7 performed better in both CS:GO and DOTA 2.
