Top 5 Reasons to BUY or NOT buy the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 2

Last week we reviewed the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 2 and judging by the views, we think our readers like it. This mobile workstation is capable to handle heavy loads without hesitation no matter its thin body. Let’s see the top 5 pros and cons of Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 2.

You can check the prices and configurations in our Specs System: https://laptopmedia.com/series/lenovo-thinkpad-x1-extreme-gen-2/

5 reasons to BUY the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 2

1. Build quality

So much power in such a thin and light body – 1.70 kg and a profile of 18mm. This is one of the thinnest and lightest devices that can be equipped with the Intel Core i9-9880H. Its build combines carbon Fiber, glass fiber, and aluminum (for the lid). That’s a rare and premium selection of materials.

2. The screen

The screen (BOE NV156FHM-N63 BOE07D8) has 92% sRGB coverage and that is a very strong result. The panel has a decent contrast ratio and pretty good viewing angles. The screen uses PWM that is eliminated by our “Health-Guard” profile when used with our LM Profiles app.

3. Great keyboard

The keyboard is a comfortable one, with long key travel and clicky feedback too. Plus, we also find that the keys have a good uniformity. This is important because that means all the keys have the same feedback when you type on?

4. Upgradability

Well, this is a real workstation. The RAM size can be upgraded up to 64GB DDR4. This one has two Thunderbolt 3 ports (super rare) and an SD card reader too. There is more stuff – two NVMe slots with RAID 0 support. This thing can be turned into a beast for work if you choose the max upgraded configuration.

5. Superb battery life

The battery capacity is huge – 80Wh. The results are very good – 11 hours for Web browsing and for video playback too. You can be away from the charger for a long time with this laptop.

2 reasons not to BUY the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 2

1. Hefty price tag

The great build quality, the slim profile, the low weight and the great hardware inside come with a price, and that price can go up to $6000 if you choose the top-end configuration. Yikes!

2. Not-so-good cooling solution

Unfortunately, you can’t have monstrous hardware in a thin profile without more than average temperatures. Our test device reached 54°C in the center of the keyboard. If you choose one with the Core i9-9880H the shell will be even hotter.

Cheap laptops always have numpads so you have lots of options.
Those of us who prefer centered keyboards have a lot less choice, unfortunately.

Superb battery life, is this a joke? I am not able to watch the whole 2h movie in 4k on mine. Yes it will work 5 hours if you dont touch it.
