[Comparison] MSI GS66 Stealth (2020) vs GS65 Stealth (2019) – what’s new?

The Stealth devices by MSI have always been great looking notebooks with an all-aluminum build. They have really slim profiles and great hardware that features high-end CPU and GPU options. We are very pleased with the pros of the GS65 Stealth – in our in-depth review we shared with you that we like the superb display, the keyboard, the good performance, and the build. It looks like the next model – the GS66 Stealth will be even better in every aspect. MSI unveils a bit of information about it alongside the GE66 model.

The successor has more powerful hardware, new and improved cooling, and better panels.

Design: Sleeker, Cleaner, Darker

If Batman has a laptop we are pretty sure that it will be the GS66 Stealth. The notebook has a completely black color theme, even the branding logo on the lid is darkened. There is a new hinge design and redesigned “back” as well. The keyboard is definitely a SteelSeries one but for now, we don’t have more info about it. To be honest, we find the new look much better than the old one.

Hardware – 10th gen Core-H

The GS66 Stealth will feature 10th gen Core-H CPUs from Intel. For power users, there will be a Core i9 processor configuration. The GPU options aren’t clear enough too but maybe we can expect the new mobile RTX Super GPUs from NVIDIA.

The GS65 model has powerful CPUs to choose from too – like Intel Core i9-9880H, which is enough for…everything.

Connectivity and ports

Wi-Fi 6 is on board, that’s new for sure (a lot of 2020 mid-to-high-end laptops have it as well), Bluetooth 5.0 and Gigabit Ethernet are standard options for the GS65 as well. The I/O looks fine – three USB 3.1 gen2 (Type-A), two USB Type-C (with Thunderbolt 3 support), an HDMI 2.0, audio jack, and a Kensington Lock.

Other specs – 300Hz panel, huge battery, and new cooling solution

The GS66 Stealth will have a huge 99.9Wh battery and an extremely fast 300Hz panel too. There is a mesh grill above the keyboard to provide additional cooling. At the top of the screen, you will find an IR camera – the GS65 doesn’t have one so that’s an improvement. The cooling has been optimized – it’s called Cooler Boost Trinity+ and it has just 1mm thin fans that have an extra 10% airflow compared to the G65 Stealth ones. That’s a welcome upgrade since the GS65 Stealth is loud under load and has a hot bottom plate when heavy stress is applied.
