First impressions of Oukitel U7 Pro – 5.5-inch HD IPS screen and 13MP camera

We doubt that many of you have heard about the Chinese manufacturer Oukitel. However, it’s a company, which is quickly gaining popularity in the US and Europe. We are currently in possession of some of Oukitel’s most interesting models and we’re planning to review each one of them, starting with the U7 Pro. This is the entry-level offering from and here are our initial impressions.

Oukitel U7 Pro has a 5.5-inch screen, meaning that we’re dealing with a so-called phablet. The device’s thickness measures at 8.8 mm but the edges around the back are rounded to help for better and more secure grip. Keeping in mind the 5.5-inch display, it’s logical to assume that your thumb will not be able to reach the top part of the screen, but there’s another reason for that. The phone uses hardware navigation buttons, which increase the size of the bezel by a lot. Moreover, it will probably not be easy for you to use them in the dark at first, as they are not LED-backlit, but you’re going to get used to them in time. The rear cover of the phone is plastic and has a glossy finish, which looks nice, but also attracts a lot of fingerprints and smudges. It can easily be removed and once you’ve done that you’ll get access to both SIM card slots and the microSD memory card. We’re guessing you’ll make use of the latter as soon as you get the phone since it has only 8GB of internal storage and more than half of which are taken by the OS.

If we can consider these minor flaws as completely normal for the price range, then the rest of the specs will pleasantly surprise you. We already mentioned that U7 Pro has a 5.5-inch screen, but what we didn’t say is that it has an IPS panel, which provides bright colors and wide viewing angles. Also, the resolution is HD (720×1280) and 267 ppi pixel density.

It’s not every day that we come across a device with a 13MP rear camera in the budget section. From our experience with it so far we can say that the photo quality is relatively good. Moreover, the camera has an LED flash and autofocus as well as a couple of shooting modes such as HDR and panorama. You will also find a couple of manual settings like ISO, white balance, exposure, etc, which will help you make the most out of the situation.

Even though Oukitel U7 Pro is a budget device, we’re pleased by its software capabilities. Oukitel has put a lot of effort into providing a large variety of features on the phone, which, by the way, aren’t that heavy and don’t cause the device to perform sluggishly when going through the menus. U7 Pro runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with a couple of neat features provided by the manufacturer. For example, you can quickly access certain apps by drawing given letter on a turned off screen or swipe between photos and songs without even touching the display. We’re going to take a closer look at these features and gestures in our upcoming review. We’ll also check the durability of the phone’s 2500 mAh battery as well as the performance of its quad-core MediaTek MT6580 SoC.

I found an Oukitel U7 Pro description video here https://goo.gl/8heVVr, and want to buy a smartphone with that price. But my friend suggested me to get Bluboo Maya, he said it is with higher performance. Now I can’t make my decision about it. Can you help me?
