LG Nexus 5X preview – Google’s new high-end competitor

Z

Back in September, Google officially announced the new Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P models so it’s finally the time to take a closer look at the specs of 5X and as soon as we get our hands on one, we’ll do a full review of the model.

You can find information about the price and availability of Nexus 5X at the following link: http://amzn.to/1MBSpfL

2700 mAh battery and 12.3MP camera

1
Nexus 5X has a 2700 mAh battery and We’ll make sure to put it through our tests and see how durable it really is, but for now we’ll just have to take Google’s word for it. The company claims that it should be able to provide more than 20 hours of talk time, over 9 hours of Wi-Fi surfing, at least 10 hours of video playback and 75 hours of listening to music. We consider the given values in somewhat not so impressive. However, the thing that caught our attention is the statement, that charging the device for only 10 minutes would be able to provide over 4 hours of on-screen time. This will be possible, thanks to the USB Type-C standard enabling ultra-fast charging and data transfer.

The phone has a 12.3MP rear camera and Google emphasize on its ability to take great photos in low-light conditions, thanks to the 1.55 μm pixels and f/2.0 aperture. Furthermore, the camera has ultra-fast laser autofocus and is capable of recording videos in 4K (30 FPS) resolution as well as in slow motion at 720p in 120 FPS. The front-facing camera has a 5MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture.

Snapdragon 808 and 5.2-inch Full HD screen

2
Nexus 5X boasts Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 SoC which is also found in LG G4. It has four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.44GHz and two Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 1.82GHz. Alongside it we see the Adreno 418 GPU and 2GB of RAM.

It should be noted that the phone doesn’t have a microSD memory card slot, meaning you’re stuck with the 16GB or 32GB of storage depending on the version you get. Keep in mind that the latter is slightly more expensive, of course.

The display of the device is 5.2″ with 1080 x 1920 resolution, resulting in pixel density of 424 ppi. It also features an IPS panel that should provide rich and vivid colors, high contrast ratio and wide viewing angles. The screen is protected from cracks and scratches by a Gorilla Glass 3, while the oleophobic coating keeps the nasty fingerprints and smudges away.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow and fingerprint sensor

9k=
As you may have guessed, Nexus 5X comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box bringing a lot of updates and features such as intelligent battery management and optimized performance with a larger variety of shortcuts. Moreover, as every Nexus owner, you will be promised to be one of the first to receive the latest Google updates for the Android OS.

Nexus 5X also features a fingerprint scanner and unlike most smartphones, which have it integrated into the home button, it is placed on the back. The concept lies on the fact that your index finger naturally rests on that spot, so it will be easier and more comfortable to unlock your device. As expected, the phone supports the latest connectivity options including WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4 GHz, 5.0GHz) standards, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC and LTE Cat 6.
