Microsoft Lumia 950 XL preview – Lumia 950’s bigger brother

As you probably already know, the new Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL phones are the new flagships from the company with Lumia 950 being the standard version and 950 XL being a much bigger variant. At first glance these models would deceive you with similarity, but under detailed look you will notice a few key differences.

The Microsoft Lumia 950 XL can be found at Amazon.com.

5.7-inch screen

The most obvious difference between these two phones is the size. Lumia 950 XL is a few millimetres longer and wider (151.9mm x 78.4mm) with the same thickness – 8.1mm.

Of cour,se the display is also bigger – supporting QHD resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels with 16 million colors. As you’ve already guessed, another difference is the 5.7-inch screen diagonal. The company used the latest generation of Gorilla Glass protective coating (Gorilla Glass 4) and ClearBlack technology developed by Nokia, which allows the black color to be visible even under direct sunlight.

Power and performance

The main difference on the performance front is the processor. Lumia 950 has 6-core CPU or Snapdragon 808 to be exact, while the bigger sibling uses 8-core processor running at 2.00GHz – Snapdragon 810. The GPU, of course, is Adreno 430 but the available RAM stays at 3GB while the internal storage of the device is 32GB.

For bigger screen, bigger battery capacity is required so 3340mAh should do the job just fine. Microsoft claims that the handset can squeeze out 25 hours (2G)/19 hours (3G) talk time.

2-in-1 – Carl Zeiss camera and a computer in your pocket

29115310512071Nokia/Microsoft has a tradition of adding Carl Zeiss optics for their smartphones’ cameras. The main camera is 20MP with triple LED flash providing clean and detailed photographs even in low-light conditions. As for the 5MP front camera – it can record video in Full HD resolution.

Lumia 950 XL offers you the so-called Windows Continuum giving you the opportunity to use your phone as a computer by connecting the smartphone to the docking system and to all the needed peripherals – monitor, keyboard, and mouse. You can use basic Windows applications such as Word, Excel, Microsoft Edge.

And more…

Lumia 950 XL has two slots for SIM cards. The device supports Bluetooth v4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, the latest LTE connectivity for better Internet connection, also a built-in GPS module.

As you expect, the newest Microsoft smartphone comes out with the latest operating system – Windows 10.
