Our first impression of Intel’s new RealSense technology and probable release date

panel-27For quite some time, we are hearing about the new technology developed by Intel – RealSense. This is a 3D camera that can be used in notebooks, smartphones, tablets, and even drones. It’s a new technology that can change the way we interact with computers or technology as a whole. RealSense 3D Camera makes it possible to work, play, interact and etc. only by using hand gestures or body movement. We are happy to tell you that we’ve got the new technology in our hands and it’s equipped with Acer Aspire V17 Nitro Black Edition with GeForce GTX 960M and Intel Core i7-4710HQ. As you’ve noticed, this technology runs well with more powerful hardware and we’ve noticed high CPU and GPU load when playing around with the camera. The first notebooks are supposed to arrive sometime around mid-April, despite the fact that the first model showed up for a short time in a Slovakian store with quite a big price tag.

However, before we switched on the notebook, we were expecting something a bit gimmicky, but at the same time we had the feeling of holding a great potential in our hands. And we were wrong, well at least for the first part. It felt more than responsive and lag free. We had more trouble adjusting to the gestures and figuring out how far should we place the laptop for optimal performance. It is really a completely new way to interact with the virtual world. We had the pleasure of playing some fun games and applications that we’ve downloaded from the Intel RealSense App Showcase. There is only a handful of apps. for now. This brings us to the next question. What about the apps? It turns out that from a developers’ standpoint, it is really easy to create your own software and the best part is that it will run on all Kinect devices and Intel RealSense 3D Camera.

All about the technology and developing opportunities – in our upcoming review. In the meantime, you can check out what Intel can tell you about RealSense and also this awesome commercial with Jim Parsons.
