Snapdragon 615 (+Adreno 405) in Lenovo Vibe P1 vs MediaTek MT6752 (+Mali-T760) in Lenovo Vibe S1 comparison – performance, benchmark tests and outer temperatures

Qualcomm-Vs-Mediatek1

Lenovo is a typical Chinese manufacturer that offers beastly phones at much more affordable price. For example Lenovo Vibe P1, which we recently reviewed, and its 5000 mAh battery and Lenovo Vibe S1 with its thin and elegant design, metal frame and glass black. The latter will receive its review in the following days. The S1 is slightly more expensive than P1 but is also positioned in the same price range. That’s exactly the reason why we chose these two devices for our performance comparison for the Snapdragon 615 and Adreno 405 vs MediaTek MT6752 and Mali-T760 comparison. In this article, we’re going to compare the computing and graphic performance of the SoCs via a couple of popular benchmark tests as well as the outer temperatures of the phones after extended usage.

There are a couple of different versions of Snapdragon 615 and in this case, we’re using the one in Lenovo Vibe P1 – MSM8939. The SoC boasts eight Cortex-A53 cores, which are popular for their low energy consumption. They are grouped into two clusters (four cores each). The first one is clocked at 1.11GHz while the second one is ticking at 1.5GHz for more demanding tasks. Snapdragon 615 is a 64-bit mobile chip, manufactured using 28 nm process, it supports cameras with up to 21MP sensors, Full HD video recording and playback as well as Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 technology. The SoC also includes the Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB of RAM.

You can find more information about Snapdragon 615 at Qualcomm’s official Web page: https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/processors/615

MediaTek MT6752, which powers Lenovo Vibe S1, is one of MediaTek’s most powerful SoCs. It also has eight Cortex-A53 cores, but they aren’t separated into clusters and are all clocked at 1.69GHz. Additionally, MediaTek’s CorePilot technology provides intelligent utilization of all cores by keeping the lowest possible energy consumption as well as the ability to unlock the full power of all eight cores (if necessary). The chip also supports Rel. 9, Cat. 4 LTE (FDD & TDD), DC-HSPA+, TD-SCDMA, EDGE, 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 and cameras with up to 16MP sensors and 4K video recording. The SoC also boasts Mali-T760 GPU, which performance will also be put to the test. We should also note that the available RAM here is 3GB.

Benchmark results

This isn’t always the correct way to determine the performance of a SoC, but we’re still going to compare the results from both models. The first three tests from the graph below represent the computing performance while the others – graphics performance.

Outer temperatures

Since the main reason for the outer temperatures of a device is the SoC, we’ve decided to include the results from our temperatures and comfort tests, for an even more adequate comparison. In order to put stress on the mobile chips, we simulated 3D gaming with the help of the Epic Citadel app. After that we measured the temperatures three parts of the back panel of each phone and you can see them below. Even though Snapdragon 615 hasn’t always impressed us with flying colors, we can say that Vibe P1’s results are more than okay.
