Dell Vostro 3558 (15 3000) offers less than satisfactory battery performance

Dell-Vostro-15-3000-3558-battDell Vostro 3558 is a budget-oriented small business notebook, the configuration we are testing comes with a 15.6” HD screen, Intel Core i3 CPU and a discrete GeForce 820M GPU. Powering these components is a standard 4-cell 40Wh battery. Dell make use of that in most of their budget devices. It seems to do the job okay for some devices, like the Inspiron 5551, but the Vostro 3558 seems to be less optimized than we had hoped. It offers pretty similar results to the 15.6” Inspiron 5558 and the 17.3” Inspiron 5758, both with more power-hungry Full HD screens, Intel Core i7 CPU and a discrete GeForce 920M GPU.

In our standard tests the Vostro 3558 performed decently for a budget device, but it could surely do better. The battery offered 324 minutes (5 hours 24 minutes) of web browsing, 300 minutes (5 hours) of video playback and a really disappointing result in our 3D gaming test – only 57 minutes of Metro: Last Light gameplay. All tests are conducted under the same conditions – Wi-Fi turned on and connected, Bluetooth – off, Power Saver mode on, and screen brightness set to 120 cd/m2.
