MSI PL62 is the new most affordable Core i7-7700HQ laptop (with GeForce MX150!)

MSI has dropped the bomb with its super affordable (gaming?) notebook – the PL62. For just $799 you get a high-end Core i7-7700HQ with four hyper-threaded cores clocked at 2.8 GHz with boost speeds of up to 3.8 GHz. This makes it the most affordable notebook equipped with the Core i7-7700HQ currently available on the market.

Now, you may wonder why did I write “gaming” with a question mark and in brackets? I did it with a purpose – the PL62 is equipped with a dedicated graphics card but it’s not the conventional  GTX 1050 or 1050 Ti that we usually see in budget models. The PL62 is one of the first (actually the first A-brand) notebook to release with NVIDIA’s new mobile GPU – the GeForce MX150. The MX150 is not branded as a gaming GPU (it does not carry the GTX prefix) but it is totally capable of light gaming or even running AAA titles on low settings. The dedicated GPU will also enhance light video and photo editing that will go well with the powerful CPU.

Other than that, you get a 15.6-inch “IPS-level” (as branded by MSI) screen with Full HD (1920 x 1080p) and 94% NTSC coverage as well as wide viewing angles, 8 GB of DDR4 RAM (upgradable to a maximum of 32 GB), 1 TB hard drive (5400 RPM) and an M.2 slot for SSD storage upgrade. The PL62 also has some special features like Cooler Boost 4 which boosts the airflow to ensure low internal temperature.

Other goodies include a Steel Series keyboard with white backlight and four Dynaudio Tech speakers enhanced with Nahimic 2+. Connectivity-wise, we are happy to say that the PL62  features a USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth 4.0.
