The new HP Omen will come with up to GeForce GTX 965M GPU and lower price tag. HP Pavilion 15 with GTX 960M and quad-core CPU in the works

Remember HP’s premium gaming solution – the HP Omen? Well, it’s getting and update and it seems that this time it’s going to be a bit different since last year’s sales didn’t exactly make a dent in the gaming market, especially compared to the lower priced but just as capable solutions from Acer, Lenovo, and ASUS.

It turns out that HP is planning to update its Omen lineup with cheaper model competing with the likes of Dell Inspiron 7559, Lenovo Y700, Acer Aspire V15 Nitro Black Edition and ASUS ROG G552VW. The representative from HP told us that the chassis has been “downgraded” and the hardware “upgraded” in order to reach better price/performance ratio. The notebook will most likely offer Intel’s Core i7-6700HQ quad-core CPU and NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 960M. We were also told that the starting price of the product will be around $1200 – $1300 but to be honest, that doesn’t seem like the best pricing compared to its competitors, which ship with the same hardware. However, the OEM will be offering the notebook with even more powerful GPU – GTX 965M for the 15-inch variant that is. And as for the 17-inch version of the notebook, it’s believed to be adopting the GTX 970M and 980M as well. We are a bit skeptical of the cooling system since the 15-inch laptop we were able to see was considerably thin but we will be sure once the unit arrives in our office.

Last, but not least, HP is working on Pavilion 15 configurations with Core i5-6300HQ CPU and GTX 960M GPU, which will be priced exceptionally low – around $800 – $900, although we take this with a grain of salt because the CPU and GPU are a bit too expensive to be squeezed into this price tag. We were also told that the notebook will be offering a GTX 950M variant as well but again with much lower price than the HP Pavilion 15 Gaming Notebook we saw last year.
