The smarphone offers the traditional Galaxy J slightly rounded construction, and we are fascinated by its thin profile (only 7.9 mm thick) and low weight – 138 grams. These dimensions can be appreciated if you are holding the phone in your hands, especially if your previous device has been bigger. Using the phone with a single hand and the comfortable grip are thanks to the 5″ form factor and decent dimensions.

The back panel features a matte finish which does not attract fingerprints. It can be easily removed to uncover the battery and slots. You can find two micro-SIM card slots and a microSD card slot (up to 128 GB support). You will probably need a memory card, because the internal storage of the Glaxy J3 is 8GB of which only 4 are available to you.

This device is powered by a Spreadtrum SC8830 mobile chip, including four Cortex-A7 cores, ticking at 1.2 GHz, combined with a Mali-400 GPU and 1.5 GB RAM. All this seems enough for the pleasant and smooth operation with the smartphone. Here is what the first benchmark tests show – Vellamo 3 (left) and 3DMARK Ice Storm Unlimited (right).

Despite seeming as small, the battery has a capacity of 2600 mAh which sounds good considering the hardware. We are about to test its durability, as Samsung claims that a single charge will last at least 22 hours talk time which is a high result for this class. The good news here is that the phone also offers the well-known Ultra Power Saving mode of the Korean company. It significantly reduces the device functionality but can considerably increase battery lifetime if need be.

The Galaxy J3 features an 8MP camera with an LED flash, autofocus and an aperture value of f/2.2. It also includes several modes, among which you can find the Pro mode offering additional manual settings. Below you can find the quality of the first two pictures we took with this device.

The smartphone comes with a pre-installed Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and the TouchWiz UI by Samsung, of course. If you have used a Galaxy device thus far, you won’t be surprised by the overall appearance of menus as they have been completely update as per the tradition of the mobile platform. You will also find some additional functions and pre-installed apps.
