[Specs and Info] Lenovo ThinkPad T15g Gen 2 – A ThinkPad for Gaming and Creating?

The ThinkPad brand has spawned many fantastic devices. We have always thought about “What if they have a go at a gaming laptop?” Well, it seems like our wish has come as we now have the ThinkPad T15g Gen 2, which now packs Tiger Lake H and Xeon CPUs along with RTX Graphics.

Now, this is not strictly a gaming laptop, as the ThinkPad brand also wants to tap into the Creator market, but the lien between Gaming and Creator seems to be so watered down that this device can honestly act as both, without any problem.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the Lenovo ThinkPad T15g Gen 2.

Lenovo ThinkPad T15g Gen 2: Full Specs

Design

In true ThinkPad fashion, this laptop uses a composite of plastic and glass fiber, which should provide decent rigidity and sturdiness. The design is very industrial, which is also a dead giveaway that you’re dealing with a ThinkPad laptop. You get a black exterior, with the Lenovo and ThinkPad logos found both on the lid and the base. The laptop’s weight varies, depending on if you pick the touch or non-touch option, with the latter being 200 grams heavier.

WeightHeight

Lenovo ThinkPad T15g Gen 2 – Non Touch2.87 kg (6.32 lbs)24.5-31.45 mm (0.96-1.24 inches)

Display

The laptop offers four display choices, all of which come with a 15.6-inch diagonal. The first two displays have a Full HD resolution and use an IPS panel. The displays have a max brightness of 300 and 500 nits, respectively, along with a contrast ratio of 700:1 and 1200:1, respectively. They also both cover 100% of the sRGB color gamut, with the latter panel also having Dolby Vision. After that, we have two 4K screens, one with and one without touch support. The non-touch one has an IPS panel, 600 nits of brightness, a 1200:1 aspect ratio, and 100% AdobeRGB coverage. The touch display actually uses an OLED panel, and is slightly less bright, at around 500 nits. It also has an infinite contrast ratio, covers 100% of the DCI-P3 gamut, and X-Rite Pantone color calibration.

Specifications and features

The laptop offers a total of six CPU options, with Xeon, vPro, and regular Tiger Lake H chips. GPU-wise, there are two RTX units from NVIDIA: the RTX 3070 and RTX 3080. The entry configuration comes with the Core i5-11500H and the RTX 3070 (Laptop), but you can go as high as the Xeon W-11955M and the RTX 3080, which would be a very destructive force.

Features-wise, you get a stacked I/O, with Thunderbolt 4 ports, an SD card reader, and a whole lot more. The laptop supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, along with Dolby Atmos stereo speakers and a Dual Array Near-Field Microphone. The Xeon chips also support ECC memory, which can be quite vital for creative work and heavier workloads. As this is a ThinkPad, you get a spill-resistant backlit keyboard, a TrackPoint, and a Mylar-surfaced touchpad.
