The new super-efficient AMD Radeon Pro WX 7100, WX 5100 & WX 4100 GPUs – all you need to know

amd-siggraph-blue-liquid-r7-white-gray-9656In November AMD launches its newest graphic cards – Radeon Pro WX7100, WX5100 and WX4100, which are said to be the most power-efficient workstation graphics these days. They are all based on company’s latest Polaris architecture and with them AMD establishes its first full range of products to bear the new Radeon Pro branding. Another new cool feature is the color of the brand, which is based on the YIn Mn blue pigment. That pigment was discovered on accident by Professor Mass Subramanian and his team at Oregon State University and has unique visual and power efficiency properties.

And with the WX7100, WX5100 and WX4100 a new logo as well.

AMD has already shared cards’ specifications and we must say that they are remarkable. Each is equipped with single-slot form factor, four DisplayPort outputs and impressive power management.

Radeon Pro WX4100
The lower-end model is the WX 4100. It’s powered by a Polaris 11 XT GPU that incorporates 1024 GCN stream processors and a boost clock of 1.17Ghz for a peak throughput of 2.4 TFLOPS. Furthermore, the card has 4GB of GDDR5 memory, a 128-bit memory interface and a 50W TBP. That means that the card doesn’t come with any power connectors and relies entirely on the PCIe slot for all of its energy needs.

Radeon Pro WX5100
Moving up to the WX 5100 things are getting interesting. This GPU is based on Polaris 10 with 1792 GCN stream processors and a boost clock frequency of 1.09GHz delivering a 3.9 TFLOPS of peak throughput.

However, it’s rated at a much more frugal 75W TBP making it measurably more power efficient than its bigger brother – the WX7100, yet more powerful than the WX4100. After all, the card is still without the need for power connectors either and it gets all of its power from the PCIe slot. The WX 5100 is connected to 256-bit memory interface and 8GB GDDR5 memory.

Radeon Pro WX7100
The most powerful of these three cards is the Radeon Pro WX 7100. It has remarkable peak of 5.7 TFLOPS using a Polaris 10 – just like the WX5100 – GPU. It’s a Polaris 10 XT GPU with 2304 GCN stream processors with a boost clock speed of 1.24GHz. The WX7100 is paired with a 256-bit memory interface, 8GB of GDDR5 memory and is only 0.2 TFLOPS short of its Radeon RX 480 sibling. However, it achieves this at a more impressive 130W TDP compared to the 150W RX 480.
