Toshiba Satellite Radius 14 preview – fast, light and portable

Perhaps Satellite is the most famous lineup, among all Toshiba-branded notebooks, due to their mainstream nature. You can find Satellite notebooks for everyday use, multimedia or even light gaming. Today we’re going to take a look at a model that you can take with you at all times. Interested? Well, keep reading if you want to find out why.

We’re talking about the Toshiba Satellite Radius 14, which information about the price and availability can be found at the following link: http://amzn.to/1TL0gkv

Lightweight and flexible

frontDespite the fact that most devices from the Satellite lineup are conventional notebooks, there are some minor exceptions, such as the Radius 14. The hybrid shares a lot of similarities with another famous OEM selling “Yoga” laptops. This means that the machine can be used in four different modes – normal, tent, standard, and tablet, which automatically transforms the notebook into a powerful tablet. There’s even more good news for the fans of hybrid machines – the size. Most devices of this kind sport from 10 to 12-13-inch screens, which in comparison makes Radius 14 relatively big – 14-inch. Also, the machine is kind of light for its size – only 1.9 kg with 21.05 mm thickness.

Keeping in mind the aforementioned dimensions and weight of the notebook, we could say that it easily fits in your bag. Anyway, according to the manufacturer, the 3-cell battery should be able to provide juice for about 10 hours of usage – a full workday.

Hardware

Taking a look at the specs, we now understand the reason behind Toshiba’s statement about battery life (which we’re going to test in our full in-depth review anyways). Satellite Radius 14 sports an Intel Core i3-5015U CPU – quad-core chip with low TDP. Also, the lack of a discrete GPU helps for longer battery life as the notebook relies only on the integrated Intel HD Graphics 5500 for all of the graphic tasks. The 14-inch touchscreen has 1366 x 768 pixels resolution and decent pixel density of 112 ppi.

In order for the machine to swiftly boot the OS and software, Toshiba has included an 256 SSD – large enough to store most of your daily data. Taking a look at the sides of the hybrid device, we noticed an HDMI outlet, which pleasantly surprised us, not to mentiont it supports 4K streaming. This means that if you own a UHD TV or monitor, you can use it with the notebook. It’s also believed that the Harman Kardon stereo loudspeakers will provide you with very high quality sound.
