[Comparison] Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7 vs Intel Iris Plus Graphics G7 – The Xe Graphics is on fire, being up to twice better than the Iris Plus Graphics
Intel has come a long way in regard to their iGPUs. We remember their old Intel HD Graphics that were a pain to use and offered next to no reason to use them, besides the fact that they were essentially free and came bundled with your CPU. Nowadays, however, Intel has made strides in order to improve their GPUs and compete in the market that is so heavily dominated by AMD and NVIDIA. Here is our Top Laptop Graphics Ranking, where we have ranked the best laptop graphics in the market.

Specs table
When you look at the specs, both GPUs seem pretty similar, in terms of the manufacturing process and the frequency. However, the higher core count of the newer Iris Xe should help it pull ahead of its older sibling.
Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7 | Intel Iris Plus Graphics G7 | |
---|---|---|
Manufacturing process | 10nm+ | 10nm |
Cores | 96 | 64 |
Frequency: Base/Max | 300MHz/1250MHz | 300MHz/1100MHz |
Memory type | shared memory | shared memory |
GPU benchmarks
These results are insane. That big of a jump in performance from one generation to the next is almost unheard of. The Intel Iris Xe Graphics managed to win in every single test that we threw at it. In 3D Mark Fire Strike Iris Plus Graphics was 46% worse than the Iris Xe Graphics, in Unigine Heaven 4.0 it was 50% worse, and in Unigine Superposition it was 34% worse.
Les résultats proviennent du benchmark 3DMark : Time Spy (Graphics) (plus le score est élevé, mieux c'est).

Conclusion
All in all, these are very exciting times for Intel, as GPUs were never really their specialty. However, it seems that ever since they hired Raja Koduri in 2017, they have been improving slowly both in the CPU and the GPU market. The newer Iris Xe Graphics performed better in all of our tests and showed up to two times increase in performance, against the last-gen Intel Iris Plus Graphics.
