Acer Aspire V15 (VN7-592G) vs HP Pavilion 15 Gaming – decent budget gaming machines

Aspire V15 (VN7-592G) will stand up for its second consecutive battle in our comparison series. Last time the Acer model did pretty well against Dell Inspirion 7559 impressing with its good build quality and display, but it took a heavy loss in the tests for battery endurance and temperature.

On the other hand, the gaming version of HP Pavillion 15 gets its first chance to shine against not an easy opponent, but with the improvements, compared to its original version, we believe it will perform at a very decent level.

Design

HP Pavillion 15 Gaming has a clean and stylish design, but in terms of endurance it is running behind its opponent. The lid is made of silver matte plastic which resembles aluminum.

Aspire V15 Nitro (VN7-592G) itself has a very stylish design but by adding aluminum in the lid it is also way more resistant than its opponent. Like most of the Aspire series models we have the Nanoimprint Lithography technology, which makes the laptop design more durable and easy to carry.

Display

The two laptops have 15.6-inch displays, IPS matrix and Full HD resolution of 1920x1080p, which is good for a decent gaming experience.

Let’s start with the HP display, which despite having a very good matrix and resolution has its cons. It has a very low sRGB coverage of only 53%. A disadvantage, causing a very big discomfort for the user are the low levels of maximum brightness and the glossy reflecting overlay. A very decent advantage is the touch display. PWM is not omnipresent here which makes it more user friendly.

Aspire, in comparison to its opponent, has more pros. Its color gamut coverage is higher – 90%, which does not make colors ideal but significantly more accurate.
PWM is also present here but its high frequency – 20.7 kHz reduces the negative effect.

Both laptops are very decent for browsing, work with business apps, but not for professional image editing. As for which of the two is better, here we have to say that the Acer model has a clear advantage.

Technical Specifications

Both machines have pretty equal setups. The processors are the same – powerful Intel Core i7-6700HQ ( quad-core, 2,60-3,50GHz, 6MB cache) using the Hyper-Threading technology, which virtually doubles the amount of the cores.

You could also visit our top laptop CPU rankings to find where these processors sit.

The amount of RAM is 8GB in both laptops. As we mentioned, the other similarity is the 15 Full HD Display and the IPS matrix.
Both machines have 1TB HDD and 128GB of SSD.

The graphics card is also the same NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M, the difference is that the HP model has 4GB and the Acer 2GB. But that has no reflection in the gaming experience in 99% of the time.

Battery

Regarding the battery life, in the tests conducted by us both machines did pretty well, having in mind their price and specs.

Nevertheless, the undisputed winner here is HP. It showed better results in all three tests compared to its opponent. While browsing it managed to keep up for 362 minutes, while watching a HD video lasted for 375 minutes and it managed to get 134 minutes of gaming. In comparison, Acer’s results were 324 minutes of browsing, 281 minutes of HD video and only 67 minutes of gaming.

Temperatures

As we mentioned, in its previous battle the Acer lost in the battery tests as well as the temperature tests. Here the situation did not change.

In the conducted tests, the HP performed an amazing job and we were not able to detect any throttling and the processor kept working  at high frequencies. In the Aspire we were able to see a light throttling which was accompanied by a decreasing of the frequencies of the processor and the graphics card.

Here the HP is the winner as well. You can see the temperature maps below.

Conclusion

We discussed the pros and the cons in both devices and now the decision is all yours which of the two you will choose. After we conducted the tests and analysis we came to the conclusion that these are two laptops designed for everyday usage as well as moderate gaming. The HP did very well in the battery and temperature tests, while the Acer stood out with its design and display.

Hi.

Don’t forget to mention that the VN7-592G supports Thunderbolt 3 port, which could be used for extending the gaming capabilities of the laptop with an external desktop GPU.

Regards.

Missed some really relevant data like display input lag (ms) and cooling system solution (separated fan for cpu / gpu etc).
