ASUS VivoBook 14 M413: Full Specs / In-depth Review

3 reasons to BUY the ASUS VivoBook 14 M413

1. The Design

With the device being marketed towards younger people and teenagers especially, it is no surprise that the design will be one of its main focuses. The laptop is offered in a variety of colors so you could definitely find something that suits you and your lifestyle. In terms of build quality, we have metal for the lid and plastic for everywhere else. This makes the machine quite twisty. In contrast to that, we found the keyboard to be quite good. It has reasonable key travel and clicky feedback. The optional backlight is also appreciated.

2. The Performance

The CPU options here are quite diverse with the laptop being offered with a variety of AMD and Intel processors. Our unit had the beefy Ryzen 7 4700U, which is quite the performer as you’ll see below. The Radeon RX Vega 7 (15W) iGPU can also handle some light gaming of mainly esports titles on low or medium settings.

3. The Storage upgradeability

In terms of upgradability, the storage here is pretty upgradeable with the VivoBook featuring two M.2 PCI-e drives for future storage expansion. The device can be preconfigured with up to a terabyte of SSD storage, but the fact that you could do it yourself and for probably less money makes the laptop a good option.

If it is your first time opening up a device and you need a helping hand feel free to watch your detailed teardown video of the VivoBook 14, which should have enough information to make the process go as smooth as possible.

2 reasons NOT to buy the ASUS VivoBook 14 M413

1. The Memory upgradeability

The memory however is not upgradeable as it is soldered onto the motherboard. This means that you have to shell out extra $$$, in order to future proof your laptop. Below you can see the soldered RAM chips.

2. The Display

The TN display here is unimpressive, and while it has a good size of 14 inches and a Full HD resolution, it only covers 52% of the sRGB color gamut. Moving along, the viewing angles are terrible and the color accuracy is way out of standards. Even with our Gaming and Web design profile, we couldn’t put it at a usable value. On the contrary, the display doesn’t use PWM to adjust its brightness so you can use it however long you decide without causing damage to your eyesight.

Below you can see the results of our color accuracy test, in which we use the 24 most commonly used colors. We have the results of the laptop with factory settings (left) and with our “Gaming and web design” profile (right).
