24 cores and 48 threads for $8898 – the new Xeon by Intel

For the last couple of years Intel used to be a dictator in the market of CPUs. In 2017, however, we expect AMD to be back in the game with its Ryzen chips with up to 16 threads. Intel, on the other hand, has a processor that will not be reached soon – Xeon. Their latest Broadwell-EX XCC (Extreme Core Count) chip will have 23 physical and 48 logical cores.

Also, the model’s name is Xeon E7-8894 and in addition to its 24 cores and 48 threads, the device also features 60 MB L3 cache. Its basic frequency is 2.4 GHz which can go up to 3.4 GHz with the help of Intel’s Turbo mode. As for the power it will need – it is 165 W. So far everything sounds great but when we look at its price – $8898…

If you don’t happen to need the upgrade of 200 MHz per core, Intel could offer its E7-8890 v4, which boasts identical specs, for $7147.

Those of you who are not willing to part with their cars so as to purchase the new Xeon may have a look at some conventional processors here: http://amzn.to/2lfvdSc
