Intel announces new series of NUCs with Kaby Lake processors – Baby Canyon
The specs for the new Baby Canyon NUCs were leaked back in July but now these mini-computers are officially announced. They are a major upgrade to their predecessor as they feature the new Intel 7th generation Kaby Lake processors and a full Alpine Ridge controller.
So the new processors should contribute to a big performance boost over the Skull Canyon series. What is interesting is that Baby Canyon NUCs will also feature full support for Intel Optane M.2 SSDs that are coming to the market this year. As we mentioned there is an Alpine Ridge controller present. This means that we are getting Thunderbolt 3 port on them. We should note that the NUC with i3 CPU will not feature Thunderbolt 3 as it is limited by its firmware. However, we are getting a USB 3.1 Type-C port on the i3 model and a Thunderbolt 3 port on the i5 and i7 variants.
No certain information is given about the release date and pricing but the new NUCs should come to the market in the next few month and prices should be around $500, $600 and $700 for the i3, i5 and i7 model respectively.
