PC Gaming Hardware Market surpasses the $30 billion mark – 43% goes to high-end users

Jon Peddie Research group has released some interesting information to the public. It appears that the PC gaming hardware market has breached the $30 billion mark for the first time in history. The hardware market includes: pre and DIY built gaming computers, hardware upgrades, and gaming accessories such as input devices and audio/communication systems. The market exceeded $30 billion in 2016 and it is believed to grow at a 6% CAGR until 2019.

How is the share spread trough markets and categories? The Asia-Pacific region holds the crown both in growth and in market size. This is due to the large population and a lack of significant console traction. The Asia-Pacific region is accountable for $11.3 (more than a third) billion of 2016 hardware sales and has an expected CAGR of 7% till 2019. However, APAC sales consist mainly of entry and mid-range products. Western markets have slower growth rates but are the major markets for high-end hardware which takes 43% of the total share. North America has a 5.78% growth rate while Western Europe is at 6.63%. For instance, Asia Pacific growth is 9.61% for 2016. Here is how the market actually divides by categories:

As you can see, almost half of the share – 43% or $13.045 billion goes to high-end products which are as we said sold mainly in the western markets. Mid-range hardware takes second place with 35% (a bit over 1/3) market share which translates to $10.617 billion. And lastly, third place is taken by the entry-level devices that take 22% of the share or $6.684 billion.

This year should be quite interesting in terms of PC gaming hardware as all major manufacturers are releasing new tech. We are expecting the new Ryzen CPUs and Vega graphics cards by AMD, Intel is releasing new CPU from its 7th generation Kaby Lake lineup (Kaby Lake processor range from high-end i7 CPU to budget friendly Pentiums; you can check them here), and NVIDIA is about to present us with Ti version of its Pascal graphics cards. Will we see an ever bigger market for PC hardware in 2017? Are you interested in the upcoming tech? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
