The new Alienware Area-51 comes with up to 16 cores and immense graphics capabilities

Alienware unveiled its refreshed version of its ultra powerful Area-51 gaming desktop. Just as we expected, it will feature top-end hardware from either Intel or AMD.

The processing power will be handled by a Core X chip from Intel  – the 6-core Core i7-7800X (3.5GHz / 8.25MB L3 cache), 8-coreCore i7-7820X (3.6GHz / 11MB cache), 10-core Core i9-7900X (3.3GHz / 13.75MB cache) or the 12-core Core i9-7920X which clock speeds and cache levels are still not disclosed.

A pleasant surprise is the option to order the Area-51 with AMD’s Threadripper including the extraterrestrial 16-core model with 40MB cache (32MB L3 + 8MB L2). All Threadripper chips will be factory overclocked.

There will be no disappointment in the graphics department as well. The Area-51 can be configurated with up to three 8GB AMD Radeon RX 580 in Crossfire or two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti with 11GB GDDR5X memory in SLI.

Pre-orders for the Threadripper version will start on July 27th while the Core X models will be available from August 22nd. Pricing or other details are scarce at the moment.
