Dell G15 5511 – Top 5 Pros and Cons

The Dell G15 series offers great value for money in the gaming world, bringing powerful and new hardware to an affordable price point, while not sacrificing a lot and still having laptops that look good.

This is happening because Dell implements a lot of already developed technologies from their Alienware sub-division, which makes one of the best gaming laptops in terms of design and performance.

This is what makes them special, as Alienware is still considered a premium and quality brand that some people might place above ROG, Predator, and others. The Dell G15 5511 brings much of that, including Tiger Lake H CPUs and RTX Ampere GPUs. They also come with high-refresh-rate displays which truly make a difference when it comes to smoothness.

Today we are presenting you with LaptopMedia’s top 5 picks about the Dell G15 5511.

Dell G15 5511: Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the Dell G15 5511

1. Upgradeability

As any self-respecting gaming laptop would, this one offers both RAM and storage upgradeability. There are two SODIMM slots and two M.2 PCIe x4 drive slots.

Here is our detailed teardown video, which shows how to access the RAM and SSD slots, along with the cooling, which here is found on the other side of the motherboard, thus making you take out the whole motherboard.

2. Battery life

The battery unit here has a size of 56Wh, which delivers decent results, especially when you consider the power-hungry internals. The laptop lasts for 9 hours and 15 minutes of Web browsing, or 6 hours and 24 minutes of video playback. Now, we conduct the battery tests with Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

3. Performance

Our unit came powered by the Core i7-11800H and the RTX 3050 Ti (95W). In terms of CPU performance, it scored better than its AMD counterpart, the G15 5515, along with other competitors such as the HP Victus 16.

On the GPU side, we have the pretty good RTX 3050 Ti with a TGP of 95W, which is more than what other laptops offer. This also means that the cooling needs to do work when put under load. Below are some benchmark results for the CPU and GPU, along with gaming tests to see how the laptop performs.

4. Cooling

The cooling solution consists of four heat pipes with two shared between the CPU and GPU. They also get one separate heat pipe each, along with heat spreaders above the VRMs and the GPU memory.

Max CPU load

In this test we use 100% on the CPU cores, monitoring their frequencies and chip temperature. The first column shows a computer’s reaction to a short load (2-10 seconds), the second column simulates a serious task (between 15 and 30 seconds), and the third column is a good indicator of how good the laptop is for long loads such as video rendering.

Compared to the competition, the laptop does a spectacular job, maintaining good clock speeds, while not overheating.

The RTX 3050 Ti also manages to perform the best out of all laptops that we have tested with it, reaching a clock speed of nearly 1900MHz while not going over 75°C in terms of temperature. The higher TGP definitely helps out here and the cooling can handle it.

Gaming comfort

The outside temperature is fantastic, with the shell not overheating, quite opposite, in fact. The hotspot had a temperature of only 36.4°C.

1 reason NOT to buy the Dell G15 5511

1. Input devices

The keyboard does need some more attention from Dell, as it is pretty lazy on their end to just plaster the unit from a Vostro laptop. The keys have shallow key travel and clicky feedback, with the Arrow keys being crammed with the rest of them, while their size is also pretty small. The touchpad is small and has a dead-zone on the clicks, but is very responsive.
