MSI’s Gaming lienup – Stealth, Alpha, Bravo, Delta, GF, GL, GP, GS, and GE (in-depth specs, info, and prices)

MSI has so many gaming devices, which are separated by so many brand names and series names that it gets pretty confusing, even for us. Their ranges cover thin and light gaming devices, more regular ones, as well as the beastly GE series. If you’ve settled that your next gaming laptop will be an MSI one, but don’t know where to begin with, you’ve come to the right place.

Here, you will find all the current gaming notebooks that MSI offers, along with links to our respective in-depth review, if we have one available, specifications, and prices.

MSI Stealth 15M

This laptop is the epitome of a portable gaming machine. It brings all the necessities that you would need from a gaming laptop, such as a (relatively) high TDP processor, in this case, the Core i7-11370H and the Core i7-11375H, along with the RTX 3060, which is one of the more budget options that this new family of GPUs offers.

It gets all of this, while only weighing 1.70 kg, and having a profile of around 16 mm, which is great if you fancy portability over the best possible performance. Yes, the GPU is capped at a 65W TDP, but with Dynamic Boost, it can get a 15W increase if it is struggling in some more demanding games.

MSI Stealth 15M (RTX 30) in-depth review

The first thought that came to our mind when we first took the MSI Stealth 15M in our hands was "Well, this looks familiar". In fact, its body is suspiciously similar to that of the older GS65 Stealth, but even in case the chassis is reused, the design is definitely changed. With that said, this laptop is directly marketed towards gamers and "young professionals", and promotes speed and power. Moreover, according to MSI, this is the thinnest and lightest gaming notebook on the market, but as usual - take this with a pinch of salt.By the way, you should know that the Stealth 15M comes i[...]

Pros

  • Good amount of power inside a very thin and light notebook
  • 3200 MHz memory in dual-channel, one M.2 PCIe x4 slot, Thunderbolt 4 + Wi-Fi 6 support, and a MicroSD card reader
  • The display doesn't flicker at any brightness level (BOE NV156FHM-NX4)
  • Has a good contrast ratio and comfortable viewing angles (BOE NV156FHM-NX4)
  • 144Hz refresh rate paired with relatively good pixel response times (BOE NV156FHM-NX4)

Cons

  • The cooling is a bit inefficient (and sounds weird)
  • It gets pretty warm on the outside when gaming
  • Covers only half of the sRGB color gamut (BOE NV156FHM-NX4)
  • Battery life is only average

MSI Alpha – Alpha 15 (B5Ex)

MSI Alpha 15 (B5Ex)
CPUAMD Ryzen 5 5600H
AMD Ryzen 7 5800H
GPUAMD Radeon RX 6600M
Display15.6″ Full HD 144Hz IPS

The Alpha 15 presents something very special. A total AMD combo using the Ryzen 5000H-series processors and the Radeon RX 6600M. We rarely see AMD graphics cards in the mobile laptop market, which is surprising, as the 6000-series has been out for a while, and mobile versions of them are still scarce.

The GPU performs very well, being comparable if not better than an RTX 3060. In terms of temperatures, the CPU maxes out at 95°C, while the GPU is running at around 2.10GHz, while not exceeding a temperature of 76°C.

In terms of design, you’re covered as well. The laptop is well built, featuring a metal chassis with a minimal look. There is a different Eagle logo on the lid, which looks good. The laptop can also function as a professional tool, with its display covering 93% of the sRGB gamut, while its color accuracy reaches a dE value of 1.7 when we apply our Design and Gaming profile.

MSI Alpha 15 (B5Ex) in-depth review

Okay guys, prepare for something big today - we have our first take on the RDNA 2 architecture. The laptop in question is the MSI Alpha 15 (B5Ex), and it's equipped with the Radeon RX 6600M. Indeed, this is not a top dog of a graphics card, but it should be comparable to the RTX 3060 to some extent.Of course, you will need a powerful CPU in order to eliminate any bottleneck opportunity. This is why for the time being, MSI offers its device only with the Ryzen 7 5800H. This means that MSI is once again into entirely AMD builds. However, before we start, we want to talk a bit about the lapt[...]

Pros

  • Two SODIMM slots, two M.2 PCIe x4 slot
  • Rigid structure
  • Lacks PWM (AUO B156HAN08.0 (AUO80ED))
  • 93% sRGB coverage and accurate colors with our Gaming and Web design profile (AUO B156HAN08.0 (AUO80ED))
  • Fast pixel response times and 144Hz refresh rate (AUO B156HAN08.0 (AUO80ED))
  • Powerful hardware
  • Good battery life

Cons

  • No SD card reader and Thunderbolt 4
  • Runs hot

MSI Bravo – Bravo 15 (A4DDx / A4DCx)

AMD Radeon RX 5500M
Display15.6″ Full HD IPS
15.6″ Full HD 120Hz IPS
15.6″ Full HD 144Hz IPS

Another fully-AMD notebook, the Bravo 15 offers slightly older hardware that still has the gaming performance that you need. Paired together, the Ryzen 5 4600H and the RX 5300M deliver decent benchmark scores, outclassing the GTX 1650 Ti, which looks to be its main competitor.

When it comes to real-life gaming, it can reach 60 FPS in most of today’s modern triple-A titles, but with some games, you would have to play with the settings to reach the 60 FPS mark.

The laptop isn’t as premium as its Alpha sibling, using metal only for the lid, while the rest of the body is made from plastic. Here, we also see the circular MSI eagle logo. The display that is used here covers around half of the sRGB color gamut, while its color accuracy is off both with the stock settings and with our Design and Gaming profile applied.

MSI Bravo 15 (A4DDx / A4DCx) in-depth review

For one reason or another, the Bravo 15 is one of MSI's most controversial laptops. We are not going to take that into consideration, because we want our review to be as objective as possible. So what is this laptop actually?Well, this is one of the first laptops on the market to feature entirely AMD hardware. It comes with Ryzen 4000H processors. This is why MSI says that this is a 7nm technology laptop. While it's not wrong, it is nothing more than a marketing gimmick, since 7nm by itself means nothing in the gaming world - more on that, later. However, what is particularly interesti[...]

Pros

  • Priced adequately
  • Good keyboard with decent travel, clicky feedback, and an optional RGB backlight
  • Up to 64GB of memory in dual-channel + two M.2 slots for storage
  • Wi-Fi 6 support
  • 144Hz display option
  • Doesn't use PWM for brightness adjustment (AUO B156HAN08.4)

Cons

  • Lacks an SD card reader and Thunderbolt support
  • Covers only 51% of sRGB (AUO B156HAN08.4)
  • Gets pretty warm on the outside
  • Drivers feel unfinished
  • Huge dead zone on the trackpad clicking mechanism

MSI Delta – Delta 15 (AE5x)

CPUAMD Ryzen 7 5800H
GPUAMD Radeon RX 6700M
Display15.6″ Full HD 144Hz IPS
15.6″ Full HD 144Hz IPS

The third AMD-powered notebook to come out of MSI’s production line, the Delta 15 takes a more grown-up approach to its design, which is similar to that of the Triton 300 SE from Acer (you can check out the latter right here). It uses metal for the whole chassis while keeping the branding to a minimum, with an MSI badge stuck on the upper right corner of the lid and on the small circular hinge covers on the bottom, which is great attention to detail.

The laptop comes with the Ryzen 7 5800H and the Radeon RX 6700M, along with two 15.6-inch Full HD IPS display options, that come with either 144Hz or a 240Hz refresh rate.

MSI Delta 15 (A5Ex) in-depth review

The MSI Delta 15 is a laptop that we've been wanting to get our hands on for quite some time. Finally, we managed to buy one. Why is it so special, you may ask? You know, the last year was pretty successful for AMD. They managed to dethrone Intel (at least briefly), while their RDNA2 architecture brought the battle with NVIDIA to a new level. This is why the company paired with some brands to make the so-called "AMD Advantage Edition" devices. One of the most popular units out there was the ASUS ROG Strix G15 G513 with this branding. However, the Delta 15 from MSI flew under the radar of a[...]

Pros

  • Good battery life
  • 2x SODIMM + 2x M.2 PCIe x4
  • Fast display options
  • No aggressive PWM (Sharp LQ156M1JW03 (SHP155D))
  • 96% sRGB coverage and high color accuracy with our Gaming and Web design profile (Sharp LQ156M1JW03 (SHP155D))

Cons

  • No SD card reader
  • Difficult to upgrade
  • Subpar cooling
  • Gets very hot on the outside when gaming

MSI Katana GF66

The Katana is MSI’s new budget offering. Being a more affordable option, it sacrifices the premium build materials, opting to use plastic for the entire construction.

However, the laptop is sturdy, especially in the base, where if you don’t know outright, you’d think it was made of metal. The design is minimal on the lid and the bottom panel, with its gamer-y nature being revealed once you open the lid. From there, you can see a keyboard with a Red backlight, which is old school but cool nonetheless.

In terms of performance, there are two Tiger Lake H45 CPUs and a total of five GPU options, including four RTX Ampere cards + the GTX 1650. The notebook that we had came with the RTX 3050 Ti, which performed admirably, becoming a sweet spot in budget gaming.

MSI Katana GF66 in-depth review

MSI's GF series has traditionally been the manufacturer's entry-level gaming devices. Naturally, this makes it a hot property as not everybody is willing to spend a whole fortune on a laptop. However, the GF notebooks were notorious for their cooling problems, and we really hope that this year's redesign will address these issues. In addition to the mild redesign, we are happy to see that MSI has spared no effort in introducing the latest additions from Intel and NVIDIA. This includes the Tiger Lake H45 processors and the Ampere graphics cards. It is particularly interesting to see how the[...]

Pros

  • Competitively priced

  • Slow pixel response times and low maximum brightness (AUO B156HAN08.4 (AUOAF90))
  • No SD card reader and Thunderbolt 4
  • Runs hot
  • Unimpressive battery life

MSI Katana GF76

The Katana GF76 is the bigger brother to the GF66, coming with pretty much the same hardware, while bringing a bigger display, with 17.3-inches of screen real estate, which works at 144Hz. The panel has great brightness uniformity and shows no PWM usage.

The laptop had some major issues with its cooling, with the Core i7-11800H struggling to keep a clock speed higher than 2.90GHz, managing to maintain a temperature of 95°C. The notebook that we had came with the RTX 3050 Ti, which performed on a decent level.

MSI Katana GF76 (11Ux) in-depth review

MSI has updated its gaming weaponry with devices that stay true to Intel. As one of the most Intel-centric brands out there, the Red Dragon plans to reintroduce the trust to the Blue giant to its customers. The laptop we are going to show you today is called the Katana GF76. It happens to be the most budget-conscious 17-inch laptop in MSI's gaming laptop portfolio. They have switched the 10th Gen Comet Lake-H CPUs for the 11th Gen Tiger Lake H45 ones. As we figured in our most recent tests, they are Intel's biggest chance of a comeback in the laptop world - the only space they seem to have[...]

MSI Pulse GL66

The Pulse, being described as a living weapon is a new mid-range offering from MSI. It features new hardware from both Intel and NVIDIA, with the Tiger Lake H45 processors and the RTX Ampere graphics cards. There are a total of four options for the GPU, starting with the RTX 3050 (60W) and finishing with the RTX 3070 (85W), which are paired with either the Core i5-11400H or the Core i7-11800H.

In terms of design, it comes with an aluminum lid, which has some lines on it, mimicking the pulsating energy, hence the name. Other than that, it shares the same overall shape as the Katana, Alpha, and Bravo laptops. It uses a better display with 93% sRGB coverage and good color accuracy when our Design and Gaming profile is applied.

MSI Pulse GL66 in-depth review

Today, we have a very special laptop for you. Its importance is not only related to the rebranding that's going on in MSI's corner but also because of the hardware it sports. In fact, the Pulse GL66 will be the first laptop we test, that comes with a Tiger Lake H45 processor. Ultimately, this is Intel's best shot at AMD's hegemony in the CPU world. And although the blue company was still number one in the gaming world, they are aiming to solidify their positions, and at least temporarily halt AMD's progress.Pairing their laptop with the latest from Intel and NVIDIA means that the device h[...]

Pros

  • Two SODIMM slots, two M.2 PCIe x4 slot, one 2.5-inch SATA slot
  • Rigid structure

  • Fast pixel response times and 144Hz refresh rate (AUO B156HAN08.0 (AUO80ED))

Cons

  • No SD card reader and Thunderbolt 4
  • Runs hot
  • Poor battery life

MSI Pulse GL76

The GL76 is the same as the GL66, with the sole difference being that it uses a larger display. It comes with the same color accuracy and powerful hardware, but similarly to its smaller sibling, it struggles to keep it in check, when it comes to temperatures. It doesn’t allow the Core i7-11800H to reach its full potential, with the processor not even reaching 3.00GHz.

The gaming comfort was also poor, with the fans working quite loudly, while the keyboard reached a temperature of 53.5°C. For next year, we hope MSI goes back to the drawing board to figure out a solution to this cooling problem, which seems to happen to a lot of their new releases.

MSI Pulse GL76 (11Ux) in-depth review

MSI is one of the big names in the gaming market. Together with ASUS's ROG, and Dell's Alienware, they are the most recognizable brands, when it comes to portable gaming computers. Ultimately, they have a lot of series to cover a big customer base. Today, we will show you one of their latest additions - the Pulse GL76.What is really impressive about it, is the fact that it comes with the latest and greatest from both Intel, and NVIDIA. Yep, you can find a Core i7-11800H, and an RTX 3060. As a matter of fact, it is the same offering you get as the 15-inch Pulse GL66.The same can be sai[...]

MSI GP66 Leopard

Going over to the higher end of MSI’s portfolio, the GP66 Leopard offers more powerful hardware, while using a slightly outdated CPU. Thankfully, when it comes to gaming, the Comet Lake-H processors are still fantastic, offering a great platform for the high TDP GPUs to shine. You know you’re close to flagship territory when you see an RTX 3080 in the spec sheet.

On the 15.6-inch device, it is capped at 130W, with an additional 15W thanks to Dynamic Boost. The laptop has an amazing design, which is sleek in the front and aggressive in the back, similarly to luxury European sportscars, which are the measuring stick of automotive elegance and performance. The display could be used for color-sensitive work, but the brightness is non-uniform in some areas, so it’s up to you.

MSI GP66 Leopard (10UHx / 10UGx / 10UEx) in-depth review

If you remember last year's GP65 Leopard, you will know that it had a fairly decent design, which was a mix of classy and aggressive features. It is safe to say that in this regard, the new GP66 Leopard from MSI, is pretty similar. However, it has faced a complete visual overhaul, and it is now a lot thinner and looks more industrial than ever before.Since this is a gaming notebook, MSI didn't want to experiment with the not-yet-proven AMD Zen 3 laptop processors. So, they chose the Comet Lake-H CPUs of Intel, built on the evergreen 14nm architecture. Indeed, they were not the most effici[...]

Pros

  • 130W RTX GPU options
  • 2x M.2 PCIe slots, 2x RAM SODIMM slots in dual channel, Wi-Fi 6
  • Covers 95% of the sRGB color gamut and has accurate color representation with our Gaming and Web design profile (144Hz LGD0625)
  • Snappy panels with quick response times
  • Doesn't get too hot during long gaming sessions

Cons

  • Lacks an SD card reader and Thunderbolt support
  • Factory seal on one of the screws may void the warranty in some regions if it gets broken
  • Subpar battery life
  • Its keyboard is not ideal for gaming

MSI GP76 Leopard

The larger GP76 Leopard brings some exclusive hardware with it, in the form of a 155W TDP RTX 3080. Sadly, the laptop that we reviewed was a lower spec option, thus coming with the 130W RTX 3060. Despite that, it delivers absolute performance, while also coming with a different panel, one which has better brightness uniformity, along with 94% sRGB coverage and accurate colors using our Design and Gaming profile.

However, the display does use PWM, while the brightness is below 80 nits. The battery life is also abysmal, with about 4 hours and 20 minutes of web browsing and close to 5 hours of video playback. This is a great notebook for gaming and content creation, with ample power that just needs the right person that can harness it.

MSI GP76 Leopard (10UHx / 10UGx / 10UEx) in-depth review

Brand new laptops have stormed the market since CES 2021. MSI was not short in new units there, so we were able to snatch the freshly introduced GP76 Leopard. In contrast to last year, the Leopard series have faced an overhaul. Both internally and externally. The new design looks fresh, but more on that later. Additionally, on the graphics front it is paired with the inspiring RTX 3060, the sweet spot RTX 3070, and the top-of-the-line RTX 3080 - with choices of 8GB and 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM.Unfortunately, the exciting stuff around the graphics compartment is slightly down shadowed by the [...]

Pros

  • Good keyboard with decent travel, clicky feedback, and a per-key RGB backlight
  • 130W RTX 3060 onboard
  • There are two M.2 PCIe slots, and two RAM SODIMM slots in dual channel, and Wi-Fi 6
  • Snappy 144Hz panel with quick response times (Innolux N173HCE-G33)

MSI GS66 Stealth (11Ux)

The Stealth is an amazing laptop with many features, aimed both at gamers and Creators. Coming with a fully aluminum build, it is one of the most minimalistic-looking devices. It has a basic square shape with sharp edges and rounded corners.

In terms of power, the laptop has a lot of it, coming with Tiger Lake H processors and RTX Ampere graphics cards. It manages to stop the scales at 2.10 kg and has a profile of 19.8 mm, which is pretty good for a notebook with such potent hardware.

MSI GS66 Stealth (11Ux) in-depth review

A thin, light and powerful gaming notebook was mission impossible a couple of years ago. Now, thanks to the more efficient CPUs and GPUs, people can buy these kinds of devices. Sure, the market isn't flooded with such laptops but at least you have some choices to pick from. The updated version of the MSI GS66 Stealth is one of the notebooks that can catch your eye if you're on a hunt for a thin gaming machine. The new version can be configured with Intel Tiger Lake H45 processors and for the video card variants, we have NVIDIA Ampere GPUs with 95W TGP for all. That's normal given the fact h[...]

Pros

  • Responsive touchpad, Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth v5.2 support
  • Takes up to 64GB of DDR4 memory and has two M.2 slots
  • Up to GeForce RTX 3080 (95W) GPU options
  • Powerful hardware inside of a thin, light, and well-built chassis
  • IR face recognition system on board

Cons

  • Lacks an SD card reader
  • The upper ventilation grille is scoring hot when the laptop is under load
  • The keyboard is a bit underwhelming, despite its Per-Key RGB backlight
  • Disappointing CPU performance and thermal management

MSI GS76 Stealth (11Ux)

The bigger GS76 Stealth arguably bings less performance, due to it not having access to the Core i9-11980HK. Still, if we compare a GS76 Stealth with a GS66 Stealth that both have the same hardware, we would expect the larger notebook to come out on top, due to its cooling naturally relying on a bigger airflow.

Other than that, a lot of stuff is kept the same, such as the design and the display options. It is decently heavier, stopping the scales at 2.45 kg and measuring a profile of 20.2 mm.

MSI GE66 Raider (11Ux)

This is the pinnacle of MSI’s gaming efforts. The Raider series is the best of the best that MSI can offer, both in terms of design, performance, and features. First of all, the laptop looks spectacular, coming with a fully aluminum design, with an aggressive sporty rear end and bulging hinges, which remind us of the tail lights of a sportscar.

The front of the laptop is more minimalist, featuring an RGB LED bar. The laptop has a total of six display options, with varying resolution and refresh rates. In terms of performance, we have the Tiger Lake H45 series and RTX Ampere graphics, with the top option being a 140W RTX 3080.

MSI GE76 Raider (11Ux)

In contrast to other MSI gaming notebooks, here the larger unit gets the higher-performing hardware. The GE76 Raider comes with an RTX 3080 that has a TDP of 165W. All in all, the GPU delivers insane performance, taking the #1 spot in our Top Laptop Graphics Ranking.

It demolished every game that we tested, with only Metro Exodus giving it a hard time, with the Extreme setting preset dipping the framerate below 60FPS. The laptop also offers a 4K display with a 120Hz refresh rate, which we weren’t able to test. The panel that we tested had a 300Hz refresh rate, covered 94% of the sRGB gamut, and showed great color accuracy with our Design and Gaming profile applied.

However, at least on paper, the GE76 Raider (2021) seems like it can chew through its opponent. We are talking about up to Core i9-11980HK, and an RTX 3080 with 16GB of GDDR6 video memory, and up to 165W of TGP thanks to a fir[...]
