Quick look at Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) – first impressions, camera, performance

Several days ago we acquainted you with the specs of the new Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) which is now available on the market. Fortunately for us, we managed to get a testing unit for reviewing. Again, before we present our detailed review of this model, we would like to share a short article on our first impressions. If interested, you may find information about its current price and availability here: http://amzn.to/1XtWDiN

Because it is the leader of the Galaxy J lineup, the Galaxy J7 features not only the best specs but also the best design. This model is rather thin – only 7.8 mm – which contributes both to its style and better grip (after all it is a 5.5-incher). What is more, the chassis features a thin metal frame that seems to suggest that this is not just another mid-range smartphone. As far as the back is concerned – it is made of plastic, although its texture implies metal. We also appreciate the fact that it is not a fingerprint magnet. Additionally, there are no surprises as far as the front part of the device is concerned. Perhaps the only peculiarity here is the presence of a front LED flash. Other than that, you can observe the traditional for Samsung hardware Home button, accompanied by two sensor buttons, a front-facing cameras and ambient light and proximity sensors.

Galaxy J7 comes with a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display which means that you are presented with vibrant and contrasty colors. Furthermore, visibility is perfect from all angles and even when working outdoors. The latter is further facilitated by the special outdoors mode, bumping up the brightness so that you won’t have any problems even in direct sunlight. As far as the resolution is concerned – it’s HD (1280 x 720 p) which is normal for this class.

The octa-core Exynos 7 Octa 7580 is a feature worth mentioning. This may not be Samsung’s top CPU, but as you may see from the first tests below, its perfromance is  quite high for this price range. It is accompanied by a Mali-T720MP2 GPU and 2 GB of RAM – all this contributes to smooth operation with the various menus.

Galaxy J7 offers Android 6.0.1. You can learn more about the new features it brings in our article. Of course, Samsung has added its Touch Wiz UI on top of that, and it brings not only design changes, but also a good number of pre-installed apps, additional functions and useful modes (such as Easy mode and Ultra power saving mode). The battery capacity is 3300 mAh and even though we have not performed detailed tests yet, we are more than pleased by its perfromance and expect excellent results.

Last but not least, Galaxy J7 (2016) features a 13MP autofocus camera with an LED flash and an aperture value of f/1.9 which means decent lowlight photos. We will check very soon, but before that you can have allok at the first snapshots we took with the smartphone. In addition, you will be able to play around with a good number of camera modes and settings.
