[Specs and Info] ASUS ZenBook 14X OLED (UX5401) – an anniversary device with a special Space Edition

The ZenBook 14X OLED is a fantastic laptop in and of itself. However, this didn’t stop ASUS from transforming it into a notebook that you might see in a Sci-Fi movie to mark the 25th anniversary of the first ASUS laptop to be sent into space.

The new Space Edition has a few new additions that are lacking on the ordinary device, which is already fabulous. Despite its portable nature, you get the 45W Alder Lake H processors, with a Core i7 for the regular version and a Core i9 for the Space Edition.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the ASUS ZenBook 14X OLED (UX5401) and its Space Edition.

Design

The regular ZenBook looks like every other ZenBook that ASUS offers, coming with a magnesium-aluminum allow chassis, diamond-cut edges, and rounded corners. The lid has a circular pattern, which is centered around a glossy ASUS logo that is offset to the right. The lid also works like a hinge, lifting up the rear end of the laptop to allow for better airflow.

Now for the Space Edition, you get either a white or a grey exterior with a secondary 3.5-inch OLED display on the back of the lid, which can show personalized notifications. The whole laptop is also covered in lines and circles, to fit the space exploration and spaceship aesthetic. On the base, the spacebar key comes in a different color that resembles salmon pink. In terms of dimensions, the Space Edition weighs 100 grams more while keeping the same profile of 15.9 mm.

Display

Similar to other ZenBook laptops, this one gets the same 14-inch 2.8K OLED panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 90Hz refresh rate. It is a known quantity that is great for both entertainment and professional work, bringing 100% DCI-P3 coverage and Pantone certification for color accuracy.

Specifications and features

The laptop usually comes with a Core i7-12700H, while the Space edition comes with a Core i9-12900H. Both of these CPUs use Alder Lake hybrid architecture and feature 6 Performance cores with hyperthreading and 8 Efficiency cores for a total of 14 cores and 20 threads. For the graphics, you have the Iris Xe Graphics G7, which is a champ in its class, even managing to do better than some of NVIDIAs MX-series GPUs when it comes to benchmarks and games.

The main issue we see here is the cooling, and we really hope ASUS has a way of combatting temperatures. One way they could do that is with a Vapor chamber, which is both effective and doesn’t take a lot of space. What ASUS has done is put two heat pipes with 6mm and 8mm width and two fans.

Lastly, the I/O packs a punch, with one USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.0b port, a MicroSD card reader, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
