These are the most minimal laptops that GIGABYTE has ever created. The AERO 16 and AERO 17 draw inspiration from past devices, evolving those designs using minimalistic touches.

What they made, in the end, are two great-looking devices that also sport powerful hardware and amazing 4K displays. Since they were revealed during CES 2022, they both come with Alder Lake H and the new RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 Ti.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the GIGABYTE AERO 16 and AERO 17 (Intel 12th Gen).

Design

Both the AERO 16 and AERO 17 are crafted from a single block of aluminum, which has been CNC-milled. This makes the structure very rigid and solid, with very few twists and bends. The lid is polished and has a nice finish, which is matte but also reflects light in a funny way. The sharp edges and round corners give it a very modern appearance. The notebooks are coated in Silver, which looks exceptional. The lids also sport a glossy AERO logo.

Display

The AERO 16 offers two 16-inch panels with a 16:10 aspect ratio. The first panel uses IPS Mini LED technology and has a QHD+ resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate. It fully covers the DCI-P3 gamut and has VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification. The second panel has a 4K UHD+ resolution. This panel is also available on the AERO 17, but with a regular 16:9 aspect ratio. The OLED technology makes for True blacks, infinite contrast ratio, 100% DCI-P3 coverage, VESA DisplayHDR 1000, X-Rite, and Pantone certification.

Specifications and features

The laptops use the same processors and graphics, with the former part being taken care of by the Core i7-12700H and the Core i9-12900HK. Both of them have 14 cores and 20 threads, along with boost speeds of 4.70GHz and 5.00GHz, respectively. Going back to the graphics, we have the 105W version of the RTX 3060, the RTX 3070 Ti, and the RTX 3080 Ti. For the AERO 16, the QHD+ panel and the RTX 3060 is a match made in heaven. Otherwise, if you get the 4K screen, which comes standard on the AERO 17, the RTX 3060 will have a tough job to push that many pixels.

One negative about the laptops is the I/O or lack thereof. You only get a single USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, an audio jack, and two Thunderbolt 4 ports, which leaves a bitter taste in our mouths.

Thankfully, GIGABYTE knows this and provides an AERO hub, which gives you an HDMI port, a Mini DisplayPort, a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, and an Ethernet connector.
