Design

ThinkPads have always been a brewing pot when it comes to the build materials. The laptops with a black chassis have a lid that is made from Glass fiber, Carbon fiber, and polycarbonate, along with either plastic or an aluminum chassis, depending on if you choose the discrete graphics or not. There is also a grey model, which has an aluminum lid and a plastic chassis. We are positive that the laptops will deliver good build quality, as Lenovo has always delivered on that in the past. The design itself is identical to any other ThinkPad, with minimal branding, sharp edges, and rounded corners.

WeightHeight

Lenovo ThinkPad P16s Gen 1 (Intel)1.67 kg (3.7 lbs)20.83 mm

Display

The ThinkPad P14s Gen 3 comes with three displays options. The base model offers an FHD+ IPS panel with either 300, 400, or 500 nits of brightness and either 800:1 or 1000:1 contrast ratio. The models with the latter contrast ratio also fully cover the sRGB color gamut. There’s also a 2.2K IPS panel with a 300 nit brightness, a 1500:1 contrast ratio, and 100% sRGB coverage. The final option has a 4K UHD+ resolution, a max brightness of 500 nits, a 1500:1 contrast ratio, and 100% DCI-P3 coverage.

Going over to the larger device, it also has panels with a 16:10 aspect ratio, including the same FHD+ panel as the P14s. It also has a QHD+ IPS panel with a 400 nit max brightness, a 1200:1 contrast ratio, and 100% sRGB coverage.

Specifications and features

Specs-wise, there are a total of five Alder lake P-series CPUs to choose from with two Core i5 SKUs and three Core i7 SKUs. These are the so-called middle ground between performance and efficiency, delivering a mix of both that so far we haven’t been able to test, so we will skip any judgment towards them. In terms of graphics, there is the integrated Iris Xe Graphics G7, along with the discrete NVIDIA Quadro T550. If you get the discrete option, you also retain the integrated one, so you get two GPUs. This can greatly affect your workflow, as Intel has some very good technologies for accelerating rendering times.

The I/O consists of two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, two USB Type-C 4.0 Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, a LAN port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. A SmartCard reader is optional.
