[Specs, Info, and Prices] Dell G15 5520 – a less-expensive Alienware

Did you know that some sports cars share identical parts with smaller family or economy cars? This is kind of what is happening with the Dell G-series of gaming laptops and their flagship Alienware.

Dell, being the parent company of Alienware, is able to siphon off technology and R&D from their more expensive brand and use it in their entry-level and more affordable laptops. This is where we get the newest Dell G15 5520, which uses the latest available hardware, along with a design that gamers will like very much.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the Dell G15 5520.

The Dell G15 5520 is available now with a starting price of $899.99.

Design

The laptop does have a plastic design, but you have to expect that with more affordable devices. It comes with two color options, either Obsidian Black or Dark Shadow Grey, both of which look decent. The design is quite gamer-y but is still subdued, with no RGB or lighting. The base is quite hefty and extends beyond the lid. It has an aggressive look with large heat vents on the back and the sides. The lid has a triangular bulge in the middle, along with a Dell logo in the center of the lid. This laptop doesn’t try to be portable, weighing 2.81 kg, and having a profile of 25.33 mm.

Display

There are a total of three display options, with two Full HD IPS panels with either 120 Hz or 165 Hz. The third option increases the resolution to QHD and the refresh rate to 240Hz.

Specifications and features

The laptop uses two Alder Lake-H CPUs, with either the Core i5-12500H or the Core i7-12700H. Both of these CPUs will provide more than enough performance for gaming. The processors are a good base that won’t allow for bottlenecking with the available GPU options. Speaking of graphics, we have a total of four options, with the entry-level RTX 3050 and RTX 3050 Ti, the mid-range RTX 3060, and the upper-end RTX 3070 Ti, which can push the QHD 240Hz panel through its paces.

In terms of I/O, the laptop uses three USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, a single USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, which on the Core i7 models also has Thunderbolt 4 support, an HDMI 2.1 port, an Ethernet connector, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Cooling-wise, the laptop uses a solution found in Alienware products, with four copper heat pipes and heatsinks, and two fans, which should be enough even for the higher-powered models.
