Top 5 reasons to BUY or NOT to buy the Acer Swift 3X (SF314-510G)

Acer’s Swift 3 lineup has become increasingly crowded with every passing year, and it is really getting difficult to differentiate their devices if you are a regular consumer looking for your next laptop. What they have decided to try this time is to add an X to the name of their machine in order to signify that their device is the first-ever to feature Intel’s discrete Intel Iris Xe Max GPU.

4 reasons to BUY the Acer Swift 3X (SF314-510G)

1. Тhe design and the build quality

Acer’s Swift devices have always delivered in this department. This Swift 3X continues that legacy with an aluminum alloy body and a stylish design. With the premium aluminum body comes increased durability and a thinner, more lightweight device. Weighing in at 1.37kg and a profile of 17.9mm it offers great portability for a 14-inch machine.

2. The Performance

In terms of performance, this device offers plenty of it. It comes with the new Tiger Lake-based Intel Core i7-1165G7 and the first-ever Intel discrete GPU –  the Intel Iris Xe Max. We have already seen what the integrated Iris Xe Graphics G7 can do, and we can’t imagine what performance improvements this new GPU will bring to the table when the drivers get sorted out.

Below is a comparison between the integrated Iris Xe Graphics G7 and the new discrete Iris Xe Max along with some gaming tests.

Results are from the 3DMark: Fire Strike (Graphics) benchmark (higher the score, the better)

3. The Display

The display on this Acer Swift 3X is a Full HD IPS panel. It covers 96% of the sRGB color gamut, good contrast ratio, and comfortable viewing angles. Moreover, it has an average dE value of 0.8 when our Gaming and Web design profile is applied. This means that the device is great for video editors, designers, and professionals.

In addition to receiving efficient and health-friendly profiles, by buying LaptopMedia's products you also support the development of our labs, where we test devices in order to produce the most objective reviews possible.

Office Work

Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.

Design and Gaming

This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.

Health-Guard

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.

4. The Battery life

Another great feature of the Acer Swift 3X is the battery life. In our tests, its 58.75Wh battery managed to last for 19 hours and 6 minutes of Web browsing, and 11 hours and 57 minutes of video playback.

1 reason NOT to buy the Acer Swift 3X (SF314-510G)

1. The Upgradeability

Where the device falls short, in our opinion is in its lack of upgradability. While there are two M.2 PCIe x4 slots, the fact that the RAM is soldered onto the motherboard means that if you want the laptop to last you a couple of years at least, you would have to spec it out to the fullest to get the 16GB of RAM.
