Lenovo Ideapad 700 (15″) display profiles – Quality and Health impact results

lenovo_ideapad_700_15_80RU00A2BMAs part of our project to bring better image quality while bringing down the negative impact of laptop screens, we would like to post the results from the Ideapad 700’s screen (15-inch version). We’ve prepared the usual Health-Guard, Office work / Web design and Gaming / Movie Nights profiles. You can read more about the profile packages here and how to take advantage of them. We also suggest reading our dedicated article regarding blue light emissions and PWM and how our custom profiles help eliminate both to certain extend.

The Lenovo Ideapad 700 (15-inch) has a decent IPS panel with little drawbacks – considering the price point, of course – but the display still uses PWM and needs some gamma correction so here’s where our profiles come into play.

Since our profiles are tailored for each individual display model, this article and its respective profile package is meant for Lenovo Ideapad 700 with 15.6″ BOE NV156FHM-N42 (FHD, 1920 x 1080) IPS screen, which can be found at Amazon.com: Lenovo Ideapad 700 (15″).

Office Work / Web Design

This profile aims to deliver the most accurate colors possible in the sRGB gamut – the colors used on the Web. That makes it suitable for Office work and, in some cases, for Web Design; although the IPS panel of Lenovo Ideapad 700 isn’t exactly the best option if you’re going to use it as a professional design workstation. We would advise that you pick a notebook with an IPS screen and better gamut coverage / contrast ratio. However, we successfully bring the average DeltaE 2000 (color accuracy, lower is better) down from 5.2 to 3.4. Let’s see how that looks in the two graphs below…

Gaming and Movie Nights, Health-Guard

The IPS screen of the Ideapad 700 will do fine when it comes to general multimedia but performs even better with our Gaming and Movie Nights profile. This profile lets you see more details in the darkest areas (you can see an example here).

As for the Health-Guard profile, it reduces the Blue Light impact and eliminates screen flicker on 200 cd/m2 brightness (be sure to keep the brightness slider at its Max position).

Installing and using the profiles

You can find a guide for installing and using the profiles HERE.

I bought the Lenovo 700 after doing some research, also encouraged by the comprehensive review here on laptopmedia.com. Before I worked with an Asus N56VB. The IPS panel of Lenovo Ideapad 700 is very average, light years away from Asus N series panels. So I purchased the Office Work/Web Design profile and the Health Guard profile. The first one gives accurate colours, as good as possible with this panel. Good job! The Health Guard profile gives a much too yellow, way too warm picture, because of the reduction of blue light. However, the Health Guard reduces the negative impact of… Read more »
