LG-35WN75CP-B monitor – Specs, Pros / Cons: One Monitor To Rule Them All

The LG-35WN75CP-B represents a very competitive package. Not only do you get a curved Ultra-wide monitor, but it’s also got some productivity features, as well as some gaming characteristics, making it an amalgamation of a productivity/entertainment/gaming monitor. It brings a 35-inch UW-QHD (3440 x 1440p) screen with a VA panel. The screen is pretty suitable for gaming, with a 100Hz refresh rate, a 5ms Grey to Grey response time, and FreeSync support.

However, we’ll dive deep into the color coverage and accuracy of the 35WN75CP-B (say THAT name 10 times fast), which looks to be pretty good, signifying the possibility of the monitor being suitable for Creator work. We’ll also stop and talk a little bit about the design since there are things (some really impressive things) that need to be mentioned.

    Drivers and Software

You can find all the drivers, manuals, and additional software on the monitor’s Support Page. We recommend downloading the OnScreenControl and the Dual Controller software, both of which improve the user experience.

    Design and Connectivity

LG so far hasn’t made an ugly-looking product, and they’re not gonna start with the LG-35WN75CP-B. Also, monitors are pretty straightforward, so you really can’t mess it up. Still, the construction is a bit complex, as you have to factor in the curve as well as the wider panel and the extra pixels. The stand is robust and wide, as it has to support the extra weight and heft that comes with a 21:9 screen. It has Tilt and Height adjustment, which is enough to get the monitor to eye level, without having to use out-of-the-box solutions like books, boxes, or a desk riser.

The screen can be super helpful regardless of what you’ll be doing on it. The 21:9 aspect ratio is great for multitasking, splitting the screen into multiple apps. And when you’re not working, you can play all the movies and have no black bars on the top and bottom, which contributes to the cinematic experience, especially with one of our Display Profiles. There’s also the speaker setup, which needs mentioning. It’s quite powerful, with two 7W units that fire from the bottom, so the sound that comes off is powerful and clear.

Ports-wise, the LG-35WN75CP-B is flush with them, including two HDMI 2.0 ports, a single DisplayPort 1.4, one USB Type-C port, two USB Type-A ports, an audio jack, and the power plug.

Display quality, Buy our profiles, Verdict

The LG-35WN75CP-B brings a 35-inch UltraWide Quad HD screen (3440 x 1440p), which calculates to a pixel density of 106.55 PPI, a pitch of 0.2384 x 0.2384 mm, and a Retina distance of 32.27 inches or 81.96 cm. From this distance, the human eye can’t distinguish individual pixels.

The correlated color temperature on a white screen after a Factory Reset in sRGB mode is 6160 K (Luminance 150 cd/m2 at 20% Brightness). The average gamma value is 2.18.

    Color coverage

Here’s an illustration (Fig. 1). The whole “sail-shaped” map below consists of all the colors we can see, while the black crooked line shows all the colors from real-world scenes and nature around us.

Then, we’ve drawn some of the most important and interesting color spaces, compared to the colors the panel of LG-35WN75CP-B can show:

Standard/For Web: sRGB – widely used color space for most consumer devices, ideal for Web design and development
For Print: AdobeRGB – used in professional photo editing, graphic design, and print
For Photographers/Video Editors: DCI-P3 – used in high-end film production, post-production, and digital cinema
Premium HDR: Rec.2020 – the widest consumer ITU color standard, covering a massive 75.8% of the visible spectrum, a benchmark for premium HDR content

LG-35WN75CP-B: the yellow dashed triangle (– – – – – –) represents the range of colors this monitor can display. In our tests, we calculated the total color coverage of the monitor at 99% of the sRGB color gamut.

(Fig.1) LG-35WN75CP-B covers 99% of the Web colors (sRGB)

This means that if the LG-35WN75CP-B tries to show any color outside of its triangle, it will show the closest color to it that’s inside the triangle.

    Color accuracy

Now let’s see how big is the difference between the real colors and the one you’ll see on the LG-35WN75CP-B. We measure that distance in DeltaE – the bigger the number, the more different they look.

For the next illustration, we’ve chosen 24 common colors like dark and light skin, blue sky, green grass, etc.

Values below 2.0 are considered suitable for color-sensitive work. Before our calibration of the LG-35WN75CP-B, the Average color accuracy was 3.2 dE (Fig. 2), and with our Web Design and Office Work profile, it lowered to 2.1 dE (Fig. 3). This is a significant 50% increase in accuracy, bringing it close enough to be ready for Creator work.

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom-tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate (they may seem strange at first but after a few minutes our brain will start recognizing them as accurate ones – that’s how Health-Guard differs from alternatives like f.lux).

Pro Tip: As the Health-Guard profile simulates paper and has as accurate as possible colors, it could be a great tool for prepress designers!

    Gaming and Movies

We also have a third Gaming and Movies profile, which regulates the black colors, making dark areas in games and movies appear more visible, thus giving you a better viewing experience. Shooting at your opponent first can be a make-or-break moment, so make sure you’re best prepared with our profile.

    Verdict

The LG-35WN75CP-B is not your typical monitor. It’s something that you get if you take an Office monitor, a Creator monitor, and a Gaming monitor and combine them with Polymerization. It’s got gaming features, as well as a design and functionality that makes it a crime not to use it for Creator work and tons of entertainment.

Starting with the design, the monitor has a pretty decent stand with both Height and Tilt adjustments. For gaming, you get a 100Hz refresh rate, which is decent and won’t make your GPU struggle, considering the amount of pixels that need to be refreshed 100 times per second. The response time at 5ms, isn’t bad at all, while the FreeSync Support brings everything together, for smooth, responsive, and tear-free gameplay.

In terms of creator work, the LG-35WN75CP-B will be able to handle plenty of it, thanks to the 99% sRGB coverage, as well as the color accuracy. It won’t break any records, however, with a dE value of 2.1 (thanks to our Web Design and Office Work profile), you’re getting close enough to the 2.0 threshold.

In fact, we’ve seen many Creator monitors and laptops, whose screens don’t exactly hit a sweet spot below 2.0 and they’re still very popular. You also get more ports on the back, so you have the option of including extra peripherals and hubs, speeding up your workflow.

The rest of our profiles have a unique purpose: the Gaming and Movies profile stabilized the black colors, which is important for seeing the complete picture when you’re deep into a game or a movie (btw, the 21:9 aspect ratio is perfect for movies, as you’ll be able to enjoy the whole picture without any black bars on the top and bottom).

The Health-Guard, on the other hand, simulates paper by adjusting the color temperature. This way Blue Light is reduced, which can improve your sleep and reduce eye strain. PWM (Flickering) is another “feature” that manufacturers use for brightness adjustment, that is known to tire your eyes quicker.
