Check out our new Top Laptop PWM Ranking (Rated by negative impact on eyesight)

Screenshot 2015-10-28 19.11.10The wait is over! Some of you saw this coming a mile away, since we all know how important it is for every user, and how there exists a lack of information on the matter. You’ve been aware of the hard work we’ve put into popularizing the problem – it is an issue that should receive more attention from manufacturers and customers alike.

Yes, we’re talking about Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM), or put otherwise, the flaw of some displays that has the potential to affect our eyesight without us even noticing it. PWM is the screen flickering that occurs when you lower the monitor brightness – instead of reducing the light intensity, some displays turn them on and off very quickly – to a level that our brain doesn’t distinguish, making us believe that we’re just seeing a less bright image. There are some displays that use PWM even when the brightness is set to maximum.

That is why in our laboratory we test every laptop and monitor with specialized, highly-efficient equipment, putting the results through our own algorithm. Here we have a list all of the final ratings in our new Top Laptop PWM Ranking page…

I use the app screen filter to turn down the brightness. For computer monitors at home I use a Plasma TV because those give me no issues. At work I do have a BENQ flicker free GW2255. Very good! Keep including new models in this list! And – a good idea would be – a separate list like this for tablets and smartphones.

Can you please add similar ranking for smartphones and one for tablets?

A lot of review site say that Samsung Galaxy S line have the best displays in the world, but after 3 hours playing with Galaxy S6 I got the biggest migraine because of the PWM.

I prefer a display that doesn’t have as accurate colors as the Galaxy but that doesn’t use PWM.

It’s more important for me to not feel sick and get migraines than to see beautiful colors.
