Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Pro (16″, 2022) – Top 5 Pros and Cons

Lenovo has given every other brand a run for their money, delivering great laptops that are full of features. The IdeaPad 5i Pro is a really welcome addition to the IdeaPad family, delivering a great Creator platform with the Alder Lake H-series processors and integrated graphics.

While some argue that the iGPU won’t be enough, we would say that Intel has gone a long way with their GPU solutions, which are surprisingly good in productivity work. While we didn’t manage to test it, there is an Arc GPU available as well: the entry-level A370M, which is ripe for performance and a bit of gaming on the side. Not everything is performance, however, as the laptop also comes with a great high-res display.

Today we present you with LaptopMedia’s top 5 picks about the Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Pro (16″, 2022).

    Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Pro (16″, 2022): Full Specs / In-depth Review

3 reasons to BUY the Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Pro (16″, 2022)

    1. Design and build quality

The laptop is well built with an aluminum chassis and an anodized finish on the lid and base. Design-wise, there’s very little branding with small Lenovo logos on the lid and base. There are two grey colors to pick from, one lighter and one darker. Durability is good, with the aluminum lid being a bit flexible, while the base is more rigid. The 17mm profile has something to do with it, as with thinner metal sheets, you get structural support. For a 16-inch notebook, it has a weight of 1.95 kg, which is alright.

    2. Display quality

The display on the front has a 16:10 aspect ratio and QHD+ resolution. It uses an IPS panel, so viewing angles are great. The panel has two versions, with either a 60Hz or 120 Hz refresh rate. The panel has a decent max brightness of 337 nits and a 1680:1 contrast ratio. The color reproduction is decent, with 90% sRGB coverage.

The panel displays accurate colors with the stock settings (left), with a dE value of 2.3. Once we applied our Design and Gaming profile (right), the dE value went down to 1.5.

    Irodai Munka

    3. I/O

The port coverage consists of two USB Type-C ports, one of which has Thunderbolt 4 support, two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, an HDMI 2.0 port, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and an SD card reader.

2 reasons NOT to buy the Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Pro (16″, 2022)

    1. Upgradeability

The laptop is stuck with up to 16GB of LPDDR5, which will quickly get used up in many Creator workloads. Storage-wise, you get only one M.2 PCIe x4 slot that supports Gen 4 drives.

Here is our detailed teardown video, which shows how to access the tiny bit of upgradeability that the IdeaPad 5i Pro offers.

    2. Charger

Lastly, the laptop comes with a 100W charger, which isn’t enough to power up the display and the H-series processor, as we have seen that in some laptops, the Alder Lake CPUs can draw more than 100W of power, which leads to great performance.
