[Comparison] AMD Ryzen 7 5825U vs Intel Core i7-1165G7 – The Ryzen isn’t even breaking a sweat

Today we have last year’s best ULV CPUs from AMD and Intel. Despite carrying a new name, the Ryzen 7 5825U is just a regular 5800U with a smaller dye size, due to AMD fully shifting to 6nm and lower.

Their Zen 4 chips are expected to shrink down to 5nm. On the other end, the Core i7-1165G7 was really too limited by its 4/8 layout, as it delivered good performance, which could have been even better.

Today these CPUs go head to head, as we see which is a better buy in 2022, as many laptops with them go on discounts due to Zen 3+ and Alder Lake’s arrival.

Conclusion

Intel’s ULV strategy from last year really was doomed to fail, as the market long ago moved on from the 4-core layout, especially in mid-range and high-end chips. AMD has offered CPUs with higher core counts for a while, even the old Bulldozer and Piledriver (sick names BTW) architectures included 6 and 8-core processors. This is what led to the doom of the Tiger Lake H35 series as well, as Intel tried to supercharge a low number of cores, which led to overheating and no performance. Between the two, we’d rather go with AMD, as despite offering more power, their CPUs are also more efficient.
