[Comparison] Intel Core i7-1255U vs Intel Core i7-11800H – how far can the new architecture go

Alder Lake processors have so far been the standout performers in 2022, putting Intel back on the throne. Today we have a very interesting comparison, which will show just how much fight the Core i7-1255U has in itself, by giving it an unfair opponent that is way ahead of its weight class.

For that reason, we selected the Core i7-11800H, which was a nice surprise last year, managing to deliver a very good level of performance if the starts aligned cooling-wise.

Today we are comparing the Intel Core i7-1255U against the Core i7-11800H.

CPU benchmarks

The Alder Lake chip fights valiantly, but in 3D Rendering, it still gets outperformed by the Core i7-11800H in 3D Rendering, as the Tiger Lake CPU scores 55% higher. However, the Core i7-1255U is able to catch up and even be better in 2D Rendering, as it finishes the Photoshop benchmark 0.1 seconds quicker.

Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Conclusion

The progress that Intel made in the span of a year is something for the history books. The Core i7-1255U, despite its 15W TDP and half the cache, manages to outperform a chip with three times the power limit. So, if you deal with Image editing and Photoshop on a daily basis, you will fancy the Alder Lake U-series CPU, since not only does it bring performance, but it is also much more efficient and will spare your battery as much as it can.
