Acer is going full convertible with its new Aspire Switch 10 and Switch 11 2-in-1 devices and Aspire R11 notebook (hands-on)

We’ve recently reviewed the Aspire Switch 12 and we were quite impressed with the nifty and functional design of the device. Well yesterday, Acer has announced that later this year the company will start shipping a new model that’s part of the Switch family, but this time it’s with a 10.1-inch screen that comes in two options. But the Aspire Switch 10 is not the only device to join the Switch family as Acer has outed the refreshed Aspire Switch 11 hybrid. However, more details about the Switch 11 will emerge later this year. For now, we will take a closer look at the new member of the Switch family.

The Switch family isn’t the only one getting the attention, though, as Acer released its new Aspire R11 convertible notebook with a dual-torque hinge that can go around at a 360-degree angle. Nevertheless, not a lot has been changed in the new R11 over the R13, other than the hardware inside. Continue reading to find out more about the device.

Acer Aspire Switch 10/10 E

The Acer Aspire Switch devices compact tablets with an additional dock station keyboard in the retail package and we can easily say that the Switch devices have more in common with the notebooks rather than the tablets. Yesterday, Acer announced that a new 10.1-inch device will be joining the lineup and the most notable feature is the improved Acer Snap Hinge 2 that offers easy detachment and secure magnetic-like lock. The one presented in the Aspire Switch 12 was just flawless and the one used here in the 10-inch model is just as good, even better. We also tried to detach the main body by holding the keyboard, but the hinges just didn’t let go. Speaking of which, we are again impressed with the design of the keyboard and it still looks comfortable and big enough for a normal use. It also seems like an improvement over the 12-inch model and most of the space is used so the keyboard still feels comfortable with big keys.

However, the hardware here is a little downgrade over the 12-inch model as it doesn’t use the Core M CPU, but the Intel Atom. But we are sure that even this CPU will do the job just fine in terms of multitasking and working with some more demanding apps. The operating memory can go up to 2GB of DDR3L and the internal storage is 32 or 64GB. Also, the vendor is offering two variants of the 10-inch model – the Aspire Switch 10 and Switch 10 E. The 10 E comes with a more budget solution with IPS screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, while the original version comes with Full HD (1920×1080) panel, both of which carry a Gorilla Glass 3 protection. We can also expect an incredibly long battery life of at least 12 hours and we will be sure to check that out when we have the chance.

Acer Aspire R11

This one is part of the convertible family and comes in two colors – light blue and white. The screen is again protected with Gorilla Glass 3 and features the so-called Zero Air Gap technology that reduces the reflection and improves readability. The hinge is dual-torque, which means that you can open the laptop fairly easy at one point and then you will need to apply more pressure to open it further. This reduces the wobbling effect that occurs when using the touchscreen – a nifty feature that we saw in the Aspire S7.

In the hardware department, the notebook doesn’t disappoint – it offers the new Pentium and Celeron Braswell CPUs with 6W TDP which will surely bring some extra battery time. The panel is HD (1366×768), 11.6-inch and features the so-called BlueligthShield technology we told you about earlier. This will decrease the eye strain when working long hours in front of the screen and the TrueHarmony audio experience is brought here as well. All these are interesting features that will be interesting to see how they perform in real-life and lab-like conditions.

Would love to know the release date on the R11 and what RAM configurations Acer is offering with it.
