We already did a preview on GSmart Classic – a new offering from the company in the budget class packing decent specs and now we’ll do the same with another new model from the same manufacturer – GSmart Essence. This device is a bit cheaper than the Classic, but with slightly toned down specs. In this article, we’re going to take a look at the specs and try to get a general idea of its capabilities.

Thin and light smartphone with a 4.5-inch IPS display

GSmart Essence has a 4.5-inch display meaning that the device should be easy to hold and use with one hand. Moreover, the phone is only 8.8 mm thick and further secures the grip. You will most likely be able to reach every corner of the display with your thumb and in addition the device weighs only 125 grams.

The resolution of the display is 480 x 854 and considering the relatively small size of the display (for today’s standards), it should be able to provide detailed enough images. Pixel density is 217 ppi with IPS panel used for the display that provides bright and vivid colors, high contrast, and wide viewing angles.

Quad-core processor and 1600mAh battery

Spreadtrum SC7731G SoC is the one taking care of the performance. It boasts four Cortex-A7 cores clocked at 1.3GHz that should be powerful enough to provide decent results in our benchmark tests and smooth user experience in general. The CPU is accompanied by the Mali-400 GPU and 512MB RAM while the internal storage of the device is 8GB, but it can be increased via microSD memory card supporting up to 32GB.

GSmart Essence has a 1600 mAh battery, which may not sound as much, but considering the small display and energy efficient SoC, we expect it to take it easy on the battery. According to the manufacturer, a single charge of the battery should be able to keep the device running 240 hours of standby and 12 hours of talk time.

Useful apps, 5MP camera and two SIM cards

The phone runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and with a bunch of pre-installed apps, courtesy of GSmart. Among them we see CM security, Battery Doctor, Clean master nad WPS Office.

GSmart Essence has two cameras – the rear unit has a 5MP sensor with LED flash, while the front is 2MP.

Last, but not least, the phone is a Dual SIM card model, but we are not sure whether this is the standard model or it is optional feature depending on the region.
