Inside Lenovo Ideapad S340 (14) – disassembly and upgrade options

As any laptop on the market, the Ideapad S340 (14) has its pros and cons. Interestingly, though, more of the pros are located on the inside of the machine.

1. Remove the bottom plate

If you want to do some upgrading, cleaning, or you need to change a broken part, you need to remove the entire bottom panel of the notebook. This happens by removing 10 Torx-headed screws and prying the panel with a plastic tool. All-in-all the disassembly process is easy, however, we have to note that the Torx screwdrivers are not as common as the Phillips ones, and the chances are high you need to go to the home center for the tools.

2. Battery

Usually, the first thing to do, when you open the laptop is to unplug the battery connector. Then, if you want to remove the battery itself, there are four Phillips-head screws that prevent you from doing so – their location is marked by an arrow, so you know where to put the screws when you reassemble the system. The battery size is impressive on this one, as Lenovo has equipped it with a 52.5Wh package. This, subsequently, results in a very good battery life, as you can see HERE.

3. Memory and storage

This laptop has 4GB of memory soldered to the motherboard. Additionally, there is a RAM DIMM slot that supports up to 16GB of RAM by itself. In terms of storage, there is a 2.5″ SATA slot and an M.2 slot that supports PCIe x4 drives.

4. Cooling system

Its cooling is nothing extraordinary – there is only a single heat pipe, that is average in size, as well as a fan that blows the heat away.
