Lenovo E31-70 first impressions – a sturdy thin and light business notebook

We got Lenovo E31 to play around with in our office. It is a nice thin and light 13.3-inch notebook, and it has a slight ThinkPad vibe to it. The design is pretty similar to the iconic series, but some signature elements like the TrackPoint are missing, so we can’t really put it in the ThinkPad category.

Lenovo might market the E31 as an affordable business notebook, but they did not compromise with features or tech specs – it comes in configurations featuring CPUs up to Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, a 180-degree hinge and an optional fingerprint scanner for extra security.

Design

The E31-70 feels pretty sturdy for the thin (21.5mm, 0.85”) and light (1.59kg, 3.51lbs) device it is, and there’s also the fact it has an all-plastic build. The overall design is clean and stylish, it has a great matte plastic lid with rubberized finish and offers good grip. On the other side of the lid is a nice HD or FullHD screen, an HD webcam and microphone.

The notebook comes with a 180-degree hinge that opens the lid to reveal the hard plastic palm rest, which holds the quite comfortable AccuType keyboard and a great trackpad. The fingerprint scanner is to the right.

Overall the E31 comes with some pretty decent internals packed in a great looking shell, available at an affordable price. You will be able to read more about the notebook in our full review in a few days, so stay tuned. Meanwhile you can also take a look at the inside of the notebook.

Hardware

Lenovo E31 comes with several CPU options, including 5th generation Intel Core i3/i5/i7, up to 8GB LPDDR3L RAM, Intel HD Graphics, and up to 1TB HDD or 256GB SSD.
