[Specs and Info] Acer Extensa 15 (EX215-55) – Productivity and multitasking are top priorities

We’ve covered Extensa laptops in the past, with both very budget and more mid-range offerings. Today we have the Acer Extensa 15 (EX215-55), a device with decent hardware that can be a valuable business buddy to take with you. It’s got great hardware, which might not be the most powerful, but you still get a dedicated GPU, while the laptop itself can be configured pretty well, with tons of RAM and storage options.

Today we’re giving you a quick overview of the Acer Extensa 15 (EX215-55).

Acer Extensa 15 (EX215-55): Full Specs

Design

We see a familiar chassis, as the Extensa 15 seems to rely heavily on the Aspire 5 for its design. We have the same overall shape and angles for the lid, base, and bottom panel. The heat vent below the display is present as well. While Acer doesn’t give a lot of info about the materials, we expect at least the lid to be made of metal, as was the case with the Aspire 5. The keyboard looks familiar, having enough space for a NumPad, albeit the keycaps still feel pretty bunched up together. In terms of dimensions, the Extensa 15 isn’t the lightest, stopping the scales at just 1.78 kg and having a profile of 19.9 mm.

The lid has a curved backside, which lifts up the base when you open the laptop. This does help with the ergonomics, along with providing more air for the cooling to work with. As for the sides, the I/O is placed there, with a total of three USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, a LAN port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Display

Acer offers a Full HD IPS panel and gives no other info about it. We don’t expect to see anything special from it when it comes to color coverage or accuracy, however, you don’t need it to do business work. With that said, nothing’s stopping you from getting handsy with Photoshop or whatever creator work you want, you’ll just have to sacrifice color grading, which isn’t a big deal if you’re just starting out and wanting to learn.

Specifications and features

The laptop comes with two Alder Lake U-series CPUs for you to choose from, offering a Core i5-1235U and a Core i7-1255U, both with 10 cores and 12 threads. The chips are targeting efficiency first, however, all 10 cores can kick in when it’s time to perform. For the graphics, there are the integrated units that you’ll find in nearly every Intel laptop nowadays, the Iris Xe Graphics G7. You can also equip the laptop with an NVIDIA MX 550, which does mean the laptop can get down and dirty and play some games. The MX 550, while not on the level of the RTX GPUs, still can offer enough performance for both gaming and video rendering as well as other productivity work. Acer includes a 720p camera on the top bezel, which is backed up by AI software to reduce noise, making for a clearer image.
