[Specs and Info] Dell Inspiron 16 5630 – Why is the RTX 2050 appearing just now?

Laptop specs in 2023 are about to be crazier than ever before. With the new Raptor Lake, RTX 40-series, and the AMD Ryzen 7000-series, we’re about to see some Frankenstein combinations, as older hardware like the Ryzen 6000-series, the Alder Lake processors, and the RTX 30-series still remain viable. Today we have the Dell Inspiron 16 5630, which pairs the new Raptor Lake U-series and P-series processors with last year’s RTX 2050, a more Creator-oriented graphics card, with a lower TGP, but still enough performance to be helpful in both your work and if you want to play some games.

While we don’t have the laptop right now, this quick overview can give you the gist of what to expect.

Dell Inspiron 16 5630: Full Specs

Design

The design of Inspiron laptops is pretty much the same across the entire range, which helps build familiarity with the brand. As this is part of the 5000-series of Inspirons, we expect better materials, like a metal lid. In terms of the design, there’s a lever mechanism on the lid, for better ergonomics and airflow. Portability is okay for a 16-inch machine, as the laptop comes in at 1.94 kg and has a profile of 18.20 mm, which is pretty good considering the screen size and the hardware.

On the base, there are bigger speaker grills than last year, while the keyboard remains pretty much the same. The palm rest and touchpad area are sectioned off, with a bit of an edge. The keyboard backlight is optional, but we do recommend it if you plan on working at night.

The port selection includes two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, one Thunderbolt 4 port, an HDMI 1.4 port, an SD card reader, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Display

The display selection includes three FHD+ IPS panels and one QHD+ 120Hz IPS display. The base configuration offers a 250-nit display with around 60% sRGB coverage. Then we’ve got two 300-nit versions with 100% sRGB coverage. One of them has touchscreen support. The 120Hz QHD+ IPS panel is the creme of the crop, as the higher resolution feels right at home at 16 inches.

Specifications and features

In terms of hardware, you can pick between the Core i3-1315U, the Core i5-1335U, and the Core i7-1355U from the Raptor Lake U-series. If you want more power, the P-series offers the Core i5-1340P and Core i7-1360P, with more cores and higher power limits which result in increased performance. Of course, the cooling has to keep up with it, but we expect Dell to place a competent solution inside. For graphics, you can always stick with the Iris Xe Graphics iGPUs, which leaves more cooling headroom for the CPU. On the other hand, they can’t match the RTX 2050. With up to a 45W TGP and 4GB of GDDR6 VRAM, it delivers important encoding and rendering support, while being not too shabby when it comes to gaming as well.
