Design

The laptop uses a familiar design, with a grey finish that covers an aluminum chassis. Since we have metal here, the profile is thinner, measuring at 16.51 mm, while the weight is low as well, stopping the scales at 1.51 kg. The lid has both the Chromebook and the HP logos. The device borrows some features from the Omen laptops as well, as the keyboard deck is recessed.

Display

HP gives you only one display option, with a 14-inch diagonal, an IPS panel, and a Full HD resolution. The panel has a 250-nit peak brightness but doesn’t show sufficient color coverage for professional art or design.

Specifications and features

For processors, you can pick between two Athlon CPUs, Athlon Silver 3050C and the Athlon Gold 3150C, and the Ryzen 3 3250C. The Athlon Silver comes with 2 cores and 2 threads, while the Athlon Gold and Ryzen 3 CPUs come with 2 cores and 4 threads. All three SKUs come with the Radeon Vega 3 iGPU, which is going to be just fine for a Chromebook.

The base of the laptop has front-firing speakers, which are branded as Bang & Olufsen, which usually means good audio quality. The device also carries a 58Wh battery, which means good battery life, especially with these efficient AMD CPUs.

The port selection of the Chromebook 14 comes with two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, an HDMI 1.4 port, a MicroSD card reader, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
