[Specs, Info, and Prices] Acer Aspire 5 (A515-47) – AMD might be the way to go
For a large percentage of the user base, an APU-powered laptop will do pretty much everything you want from it. And APUs have been AMD’s specialty, since they have a powerful CPU, while the integrated graphics are capable as well. Also, chances are that if you’re working with an APU, you’re targeting a thinner and more portable laptop with more efficiency and longer lasting battery. If you want a mid-range laptop for everyday use, Acer’s got you covered with the Aspire 5 (A515-47), which has the Ryzen 5000U-series APUs, fantastic for both smooth daily use and some heavier workloads. We’ve already covered the Intel version in a review, which you can check out here.
Today we’re giving you a quick overview of the Acer Aspire 5 (A515-47).
The Acer Aspire 5 (A515-47) is available now with a starting price of $699.99.
Acer Aspire 5 (A515-47): Full Specs
Design
The laptop has a sleek design and a boxy appearance. It comes with an aluminum lid and a plastic chassis. Durability is okay, as we see some flex from the lid and base, but it’s nothing to worry about. The lid does extend and has a curve at its backend, which lifts up the base when opened. The chassis is painted in a Steel Grey color, which looks great, similar to gunmetal. The laptop weighs only 1.77 kg and has a profile of 17.9 mm, which is portable enough.
Display
The display of the Aspire 5 has a Full HD resolution and uses an IPS panel. On the Intel model, the panel was nothing special. While being good for average use, it comes with just 51% sRGB coverage and close to 300 nits of brightness.
Specifications and features
The laptop is powered by two AMD Ryzen 5000U-series processors. Both are part of the Zen 3 refresh, which was released last year. Even with the Ryzen 5 5625U, you can do plenty of heavier work, thanks to its 6-core 12-thread layout and boost speeds of up to 4.30GHz. You can also upgrade to the Ryzen 7 5825U, with 2 extra cores and 4 more threads. Both CPUs have Vega-integrated graphics, with 7 and 8 cores, respectively for the Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7. With a 50Wh battery pack, efficiency is important if you want a full day of use from the laptop. Thankfully, we’ve seen AMD do crazier stuff.
The port selection of the laptop includes three USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, one of which can charge stuff even when the laptop is off, a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) port with Power Delivery and DisplayPort capabilities, a LAN port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
