[Specs, Info, and Prices] Alienware is beefing up their flagship laptop lineup with its new X-series

Alienware previously had the M-series, which consisted of thin and light gaming laptops with tons of power. For the 2021 year, they scrapped the M-series, to pave way for something new, something fresh. Now we have the X-series, which are pretty similar to the M-series but feature some serious CPU upgrades, which will take these gaming notebooks to the next level.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the Alienware X15 R1 and X17 R1.

The Alienware X15 R1 and X17 R1 are available now with a starting price of $3,399.99 and $3,879.99, respectively.

Design

The two devices look really similar, both to each other and to the previous M-series laptops. We get the classic Alienware design, which looks out worldly, futuristic, and really unique. First of all, there are two colors to choose from either White or Black, which both look great, especially with the turquoise touches on the body. There is an Alienware logo on the back of the lid, as well as the Alienware wordmark on the bottom bezel. The laptops have RGB lighting on the back, which wraps around the heat vents. On the back, you will also find all of the I/O that the laptops have.

HeightWeight
Alienware X15 R116.3 mm (0.63″)2.36 kg (5.2 lbs)
Alienware X17 R121.4 mm (0.82″)3.20 kg (7.1 lbs)

Display

Both laptops come with three display options each. We’ll start with the X15, which offers two 15.6-inch Full HD IPS panels with either a 165Hz or 360Hz refresh rate and a 2ms response time. There is also one QHD IPS display with a 240Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time. All panels support NVIDIA G-Sync. The X17 offers the same Full HD panels as the X15 but increases the size to 17.3 inches. It also has one 4K panel with 100% sRGB coverage.

Specifications and features

The two notebooks offer two CPUs from the Tiger Lake H-series. The X15 gets the Core i7-11800H and the Core i9-11900H, while the X17 gets the souped-up Core i9-11980HK. All of these processors come with 8 cores and 16 threads and a boost speed of nearly 5.00GHz. The GPUs of choice are the inaugural members of the RTX 3000-series: the RTX 3060, RTX 3070, and RTX 3080.

Features-wise, you get a mechanical keyboard, that was co-developed with Cherry. Sadly, it is only available on the X17 model, as the X15 gets the Premium AliexFX keyboard. Both units get a per-key RGB backlight and a key travel of 1.5mm for the X15 and 1.8mm for the X17. The cooling that Alienware uses here is a first of its kind and goes by the name “Element 31”. It consists of an encapsulated gallium-silicone thermal interface material, a total of four fans.
