#5 ASUS ROG G731

ASUS ROG G731 is a strong offer with a lot of build-in RGB options. You can choose from many CPU / GPU combos that will suit your budget. For example, the most affordable configuration includes Intel Core i5-9300H and GTX 1650 which is enough to play every modern game. If you need more power you can go up to i7-9750H and RTX 2070. Let’s see what else this machine has to offer.

The good – fast 144Hz IPS panel (option), which is PWM-free, covers 92% of sRGB, has accurate colors (with an aid of our Gaming and Web design profile). The keyboard has per-key RGB backlight and it is comfortable for gaming. The touchpad is fast and accurate. The speakers are loud and sound very good.

The bad – lack of Thunderbolt support and SD card reader. Battery life isn’t very good with under four hours of Web browsing. Unfortunately, the fans are loud under heavy load.

#4 Dell G3 3579

Dell G3 3579 has a decent battery life – over 5 hours of Web browsing and almost 6 hours of video playback. On board you can find M.2 slot and a PWM-free screen (LGD053F) which is good for long gaming sessions. The ports of the machine are positioned very comfortably. The keyboard has a two-level white backlight. The overall performance of this device is acceptable, especially for its price.

The entire build is made from plastic and the display has low sRGB coverage.

#3 ASUS ROG GL702VI

ASUS ROG GL702VI is a very good machine or at least in terms of gaming performance. It has a great 120Hz IPS display, with no sign of PWM usage, its color coverage is very wide, the contrast is high, and supports G-Sync. No matter the configuration you choose the performance will be there. The cooling solution is capable and the laptop is cool under gaming. The keyboard is good for typing with its tactile feedback but it’s not very comfortable for gaming. So let’s summarize – we have a good display, nice CPU / GPU performance, and the cooling is fine.

Well, now it is time for some not-so-good stuff. The choice of materials isn’t the best and this device feels cheap. The keyboard has no macro keys and the arrows are unisolated which is uncomfortable for gaming. The touchpad performance was a bit disappointing. Battery life is short and there is only one M.2 SSD.

#2 MSI GL63 9S

MSI GL63 9S is the more affordable option of MSI GP63 Leopard 8RD. So, there are some inherited goodies like superb cooling and good display (N156HGA-EAL) with 100% sRGB coverage (and even 96% DCI-P3 in CIE1976 – very rare in this price range). The great SteelSeries keyboard is available but with red backlight only.

The battery is not a strong one – a bit over three hours of Web browsing, that’s a sub-par result. The laptop has an all-plastic build and the colors of the display aren’t very accurate but can be fixed with our profiles.

#1 Dell G3 3590

Dell G3 3590 has a very low price tag and the hardware inside is decent. This is one of the most affordable gaming devices on the market right now. The performance of our test device was good. You can cut the price even more if you select the GTX 1050 (3GB), which is not bad for gaming too. For such a low price we found an SD card reader – thumbs up. The keyboard is comfortable, with full NumPad, only the arrow keys are a bit small. The upgradability of this machine is great, again – for the price tag.

Not everything is flowers and roses, the display (BOE T1WD3-NV15N3D BOE0819) has poor sRGB coverage, its PWM is aggressive (fixed by our Health-Guard profile), and its luminosity is uneven. Last but not least – no Thunderbolt support.
