[Specs and Info] HP ProBook 445 G8 – the latest portable workhorse from HP

We welcome every business laptop with open arms, as the situation that we are in right now requires it. That is why when we heard about the ProBook 445 G8 from HP, we got excited, because, on paper, it seems to have decent performance and a portable chassis that would be easy to carry anywhere, without a problem. While previously, laptops in the business market have been diehard Intel fanboys, this one comes with hardware from AMD. The new Ryzen 5000 U-series CPUs have been a hit and miss, not because of their power, but because some of them are just repackaged 4000-series processors that have little to no improvement. However, the ones that are powering the ProBook 445 G8 seem to be using the Zen 3 architecture, which will for sure increase performance and improve power efficiency.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the HP ProBook 445 G8.

HP ProBook 445 G8: Full Specs

Design

Let’s be honest, the laptop won’t excite many people with its looks. You get a presumably all-plastic body, which is nearly 20 mm thick, which would mean no crazy flexing. If in fact, the lid comes in metal, which would be a surprise it would increase the sturdiness even further. While not being exciting, there is still something to get behind, with sharp edges and rounded corners. There is a glossy HP logo on the lid, with another found on the bottom bezel, below the display. In terms of weight, the laptop stops the scales at 1.38 kg, which is just fine.

Display

There are two options for a display when there really should only be one. Both panels share the 14-inch diagonal, with the first one having a 768p resolution and a TN matrix, which ought to be gone, to be honest. The panel that we would advise you to go for, is the Full HD IPS one. In general IPS panels have better qualities than TN ones. The IPS panel comes in varying configurations, with some of them getting 100% coverage of the sRGB color gamut and a maximum brightness of around 400 nits.

Specifications and features

The specs are quite an improvement over the G7 device, with the Ryzen 5000 U-series taking center stage. The new CPUs feature the Zen 3 architecture which promises increased performance and improved power efficiency. The base model is paired with the Ryzen 3 5400U and if you want to go all out, there is the Ryzen 7 5800U, which will for sure be a beast. The graphics are taken care of by the Radeon RX Vega iGPU solutions, which come in several variants, depending on the processor of choice.

In terms of features, the laptop supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5. The I/O consists of a total of four USB ports (one Type-C 3.2 Gen.2 and three Type-A 3.2 Gen.1), a microSD card slot, a 3.5mm audio jack, an HDMI connector, as well as an RJ-45 connector. There is an optional fingerprint reader, embedded into the power button and a backlit keyboard available. With the standard equipment, you get stereo speakers and a dual-array microphone.
