HP Omen 15 (2016) (FHD) display profiles – Quality and Health impact results

hp_omen_15_ax004nu (1)HP’s new Omen 15 doesn’t excel in image quality as the properties of the IPS panel aren’t on par with the competition. However, our custom profiles will improve the overall visibility and color accuracy. In the pack below, you will find the usual Health-Guard, Office work / Web design and Gaming / Movie Nights profiles. You can read more about them here and how to use them. We also suggest reading our dedicated article regarding blue light emissions and PWM and how our custom profiles help eliminate both to certain extend.

The HP Omen 15 (2016) has an IPS with aggressive PWM pulsation from 0 to 99% brightness, narrow sRGB coverage, and decent contrast ratio. However, our profiles will improve a good portion of those drawbacks will also reduce the eye strain due to the blue light emissions.

Since our profiles are tailored for each individual display model, this article and its respective profile package is meant for HP Omen 15 (2016) with 15.6″ BOE 0679 (FHD, 1920 x 1080) IPS and the machine can be found at Amazon.com: HP Omen 15 (2016).

Office Work / Web Design

This profile aims to deliver the most accurate colors possible in the sRGB gamut – the colors used on the Web. That makes it suitable for Office work and, in some cases, for Web Design. However, this display doesn’t have the needed properties for color-sensitive work so we suggest looking for a laptop with an IPS panel, which has a wider sRGB coverage and better contrast ratio. Anyway, we successfully bring the average DeltaE 2000 (color accuracy, lower is better) down from 9.8 to 5.2. Let’s see how that looks in the two graphs below…

Along with the color adjustments, we were also able to tweak the white point and bring it near 6500K. The gamma curve also seemed a bit off, so we corrected that as well.

Gaming and Movie Nights

The panel is still decent for general multimedia and web browsing. Moreover, our Gaming and Movie Nights profile enhances the user experience just where it needs to be. This profile lets you see more details in the darkest areas (you can see an example here).

Health-Guard profile

As for the Health-Guard profile, it reduces the Blue Light impact and eliminates PWM to some extent. So in our case, the Health-Guard profile will come pretty handy to users with sensitive eyes – it will eliminate the aggressive pulsations and blue light emissions and will keep your eyes safe.
