Lenovo drops two new Yoga devices at MWC 2016 – Yoga 510 and Yoga 710

Yeah, we’ve heard about Lenovo’s new mid-range smartphones, but we are mostly interested in what Lenovo is really good at – Yoga notebooks. And, of course, we had the chance to play around with the new budget-oriented Yoga notebooks.

For starters, the Yoga 500 laptop was a big success and our readers are mostly interested in it because it offers various configurations that are suitable for a lot of consumers, ranging from Pentium to Core i5 processors. Now we have a successor and it’s called Yoga 510. The notebook is offered again in standard 15.6-inch form factor with the same hinge design as before, but also sports some new hardware as well. The panel supposedly remains TN for the more affordable versions but we are not sure if the beefy configurations get the IPS one. At least, the one that was showcased had a TN panel with Full HD resolution. Also, you can now go up to Core i7 CPU and AMD Radeon R7 M460 2GB GFX as a discrete GPU. On the design front, the lid is still made of soft-touch matte plastic with the interior being made of sturdy plastic that mimics anodized aluminum. The keys appear to have a reasonable travel as well.

As for the Yoga 710, it’s a more portable laptop and considerably thinner. Of course, it’s priced higher than the 510 and comes in 11-inch form factor weighing just a little over 1 kg. This time, the laptop had an IPS panel with Full HD resolution and overall better build quality with what seemed to be aluminum elements. The keyboard and touchpad seemed fair but the screen was again quite wobbly when using the touch panel. However, the system comes with Core M processors (up to Core M5) with up to 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM and up to 256GB SSD. According to Lenovo, the device should last for about 8 hours with mixed usage and we tend to believe them since the device has only 11-inch screen with the energy-efficient Core M SoC.

There’s also a 14-inch version that weighs a lot more (1.6 kg) but can hold a discrete NVIDIA GPU, although it’s not specified which one. We were able to acquire some early samples of both machines (Yoga 510 and 710) so stay tuned for our in-depth review.
