[Specs and Info] The ThinkPad X1 Extreme is the latest flagship workstation that packs Tiger Lake and RTX Ampere

The X1 is the flagship series of the ThinkPad brand. The Extreme Gen 4 is a thin and light device, which comes with the latest technology from Intel and NVIDIA, offering you the best possible performance.

It is built for the productive individuals in mind, as it has a 16-inch 16:10 screen, which has become increasingly popular among productivity and workstation devices. Being a flagship, it will cost you a pretty penny though, and while the price is as of now, unknown, Lenovo won’t be giving this one away.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 4.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 4: Full Specs

Design

Being part of the ThinkPad family, the X1 should have superb built quality. While the build materials haven’t been specified, we know that even if the laptop uses plastic, it will be every bit as rigid and structurally sound as a laptop made of any type of alloy. The only thing we know about the materials is that the laptop comes with an optional carbon fiber weave for the lid covers, which has a nice pattern. Keep in mind that this is a workstation device, so the weight and height are even more impressive. The X1 Extreme weighs only 1.82 kg while being 17.7 mm tall.

Display

Lenovo offers you two display options, both of which sound great on paper at least. Both displays have a 16-inch diagonal and have a 16:10 aspect ratio, which is becoming the norm in productivity and workstation devices. This is because the higher aspect ratio gives you more room on the Y-axis, allowing you to fit more apps and menus at once. The first display has a QHD+ resolution, 400 nits of max brightness, a 60Hz refresh rate, and covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut. The second display has an optional touchscreen, as well as a 4K+ resolution, 600 nits of max brightness, and covers 100% of the AdobeRGB color gamut. The 4K+ display also supports HDR400 and Dolby Vision.

Specifications and features

The laptop comes with four CPU options, all from the Tiger Lake family. Two of them also have vPro certification, which promises increased performance and stability. GPU-wise, you get four options, all from the RTX 3000-series. The entry configuration starts with the RTX 3050 Ti and the Core i5-11300H, but you can go as high as the RTX 3080 and the Core i9-11950H.

Features-wise, you get a fingerprint reader, a spill-resistant backlit keyboard, an FHD webcam, Dual Array Far-Field Microphone, and a front-firing stereo speaker setup with Dolby Audio support. The laptop also supports Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.2.
